Students from CNN Academy Abu Dhabi and several local universities gained invaluable insights and a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) as they participated in a special masterclass led by one of the world’s leading technologists, philanthropists and Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates. Becky Anderson, Managing Editor of CNN Abu Dhabi and anchor of Connect the World with Becky Anderson, moderated the conversation that addressed how emerging technologies today, especially AI, can tackle global challenges such as disease eradication, climate change, and food security in underserved regions. Deadly explosion at US food colouring plant
A large explosion has killed two workers and injured 11 more at US a food ingredients plant operated by Swiss firm Givaudan on 12 November. The Givaudan Sense Colour plant in Louisville produces natural food colourings. Internal surveillance video suggests that the explosion originated from a cooking vessel, according to CNN news reporting. The violent explosion sent debris, including large chunks of a metal pressure vessel, across to the far side of the road outside the plant. Search and rescue operations were restarted, and the two victims’ bodies were recovered.

MLB to test robot umpires as part of challenge system at next Spring training, plans use in 2026 regular seasonMajor League Baseball (MLB) will test the use of robot umpires as part of a challenge system during Spring training next year, with the aim of implementing the system in the 2026 regular season. “I think we will have a Spring training ABS test that will provide a meaningful opportunity for all Major League players to see what the challenge system will look like,” Manfred said on Wednesday at the league’s owners meetings. Although Manfred admitted that he “would be interested” in bringing in the ABS challenge system for the 2026 regular season, the commissioner added that the players’ experience with it will go a long way in deciding when it will be implemented. The ABS technology has been trialed in minor league baseball for years now. The ABS technology uses Hawk-Eye cameras to track the location of each pitch in relation to the strike zone.
