Made up of two yellow boxes, the junction on Kingston Road causes 27 penalties to be issued on average per day. Drivers must not enter a yellow box until they can drive through it without having to stop, states the Highway Code. It’s easy to recognise – in the UK, it’s a yellow box filled with criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. The fine for stopping in a yellow box junction is £160 in all London boroughs, but reduced to £80 if paid in the first 14 days. The RAC analysis found Manchester City Council issued the most box junction-related PCNs, with 13,130 for six box junctions across its network.

"Raising taxes would be a disaster for the UK - and particularly if increases are concentrated on a narrow base as Reeves tries to remain technically compliant with manifesto commitments. Such tax rises would be particularly distortionary and damaging to growth," writes Sunak. "The choice then is simple: spending cuts or tax rises. Respected City (of London) figures calculate that this shift means funding has actually been cheaper this fiscal year than in the previous two," Sunak claims.

Britain's scandal-tarred Prince Andrew faced continued scrutiny Sunday of his contentious living arrangements and titles, amid reports of talks with King Charles III about vacating his 30-room royal residence. Even holding a House of Commons debate on the conduct of a royal would be unprecedented in modern times. British newspapers reported over the weekend that it had prompted ongoing talks between the king and the prince about Andrew vacating Royal Lodge. The Daily Mail said heir-to-the-throne Prince William and his family are set to move into a new residence near Royal Lodge and that he wants his uncle to leave beforehand. "We need to explore all options... to ensure parliament can scrutinise this properly, from Prince Andrew's residence at Royal Lodge to his dukedom," a party source told AFP.

Oxford recently made headlines by dropping to fourth place in the Times Good University Guide. More fundamentally, by combining every possible factor into an aggregate, it obscures the fact that different people value different things in a university. The first is that teaching quality is based on student surveys: there is no universal or objective standard against which it is measured. Of the top ten universities, Oxford and Cambridge come last here. To others these may not appeal, regardless of The Times’ ranking.

Chennai: The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru's Centre for Brain Research (CBR) and the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) to study the two-way link between diabetes and dementia. "Blood sugar, high or low, can cause vascular dementia, where poor blood flow affects cognitive function. "For a large study, people above 60 years will be screened for diabetes and dementia at MDRF's Gopalapuram Centre for Healthy Ageing, he said. Patients are scored from 1 to 5, with one indicating poor cognitive function and five very good. "With smartphones and blood tests now widely available in urban areas, we intend to keep this minimally invasive and scalable."

Europe mustered a spirited show of support for Ukraine on Friday, as Britain assembled the “coalition of the willing” to promote a boycott of Russian oil and gas, a possible loan to Ukraine using Russian sovereign assets and accelerated arms shipments. Seeking to capitalize on yet another shift in President Trump’s view of the war, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine joined Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain and leaders from Denmark, the Netherlands and NATO in London. For the moment, Europe has the wind at its back. The European Union followed with its own latest round of sanctions, while also pledging to continue funding Ukraine’s financial and military needs. Britain, one of Ukraine’s most enthusiastic backers, announced that it would speed the delivery of an extra 140 air-defense missiles after production had ramped up faster than expected.
