The article raises the question as to whether this move to spread funded studentships equally but thinly will weaken arts research. In the subject group encompassing design, creative and performing arts, these institutions educate just over 5 per cent of all UK PhD students. However, they account for nearly 10 per cent of all BAME PhD students in this field. Moreover, that proportion has been rising steadily since 2015-16 as the number of BAME PhD students at these institutions has nearly tripled. These figures challenge the idea that only large research-intensives can support meaningful arts research at doctoral level.

It was a call that Canadians had never been able to shout on their own soil to their new monarch: “God Save The King.”And many of the people who had gathered at a sports and shopping complex in Ottawa made full use of it when King Charles arrived for a whirlwind tour of Canada’s capital on Monday more laden with symbolism than most royal visits. Charles and Queen Camilla are in Canada at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Carney. Charles will open Canada’s Parliament Tuesday in a ceremony laden with pageantry and pomp before winding up his two day visit. It was Charles’s first visit to Canada since he was crowned two years ago. Mr. Carney, a former governor of the Bank of England, invited Charles earlier this month just days after he had led the Liberal Party to victory in federal elections.

Liam Robinson, a member of the Liverpool City Council, said at the news conference that the episode had “cast a very dark shadow on what’s been a joyous day for the city,” and pledged to provide more information when “it’s appropriate to do so.”
