A councillor has said the "horrible people" who shot a young girl with an air gun in a racially-motivated attack need to be brought to justice. Police have carried out extra patrols in the area of Charlton Road in Bristol this week after the girl was hit three times by air gun pellets in an incident on 2 September. The pellets did not cause any serious physical injury, but Avon and Somerset Police said she was "traumatised" by the attack, during which a racial comment was made, and left "frightened to leave the house". "These are absolutely bottom of the bin, horrible people that need to be brought to justice," said Mark Weston, councillor for Henbury and Brentry.

Read our Privacy noticeA federal judge in Florida has thrown out President Donald Trump’s $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times in a scathing order slamming the litigation as “decidedly improper and impermissible” under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and ordered his attorneys to obey a page limit if they want to re-file the case. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday, who was named to the federal bench by former President George H.W. Bush, struck the president’s legal complaint from the court’s docket in an order lambasting both Trump and his legal team for having brought it in the first place. Merryday noted that Trump’s 85-page complaint had alleged “only two simple counts of defamation” while taking a full eighty pages to get to the first count. In a statement, a spokesperson for the president’s private attorneys said Trump would “continue to hold the Fake News accountable through this powerhouse lawsuit against the New York Times, its reporters, and Penguin Random House, in accordance with the judge’s direction on logistics.”

Even on this night of maximum acquiescence, Mr. Trump’s appetite for retribution was not sated. Windsor Castle is often described as the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, in almost continuous use since William I built it up in the aftermath of the Norman Conquest in 1066. Polished suits of armor look down on the dining table from plinths carved into the walls. Outside those castle gates, Mr. Trump must return to a world that does not necessarily see him — or at least, will not necessarily treat him — the same way that the mighty men and women gathered at Windsor Castle did. Still, in Britain, the night before the state dinner, protesters beamed images of Mr. Trump socializing with Mr. Epstein onto the walls of the castle, a reminder of the political furor that awaits him back home.
