A Florida federal judge on Saturday tossed out a $15 billion (NZ$25 billion) defamation lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump against The New York Times. US District Judge Steven Merryday ruled that Trump’s 85-page lawsuit was overly long and full of “tedious and burdensome” language that had no bearing on the legal case. “A complaint is not a megaphone for public relations or a podium for a passionate oration at a political rally,” Merryday wrote in a four-page order. The lawsuit targeted four Times journalists in a book and three articles published within a two-month period before the last election. The lawsuit delves into Trump’s work on The Apprentice TV show and an “extensive list” of Trump’s other media appearances.

Each covert op costs around £1,500 but MoD reckons they save millions in compensationMILITARY chiefs hired private detectives almost 300 times to spy on veterans suspected of exaggerating injury claims. Each covert op costs about £1,500 but the Ministry of Defence reckons they save millions in compensation. Covert surveillance of service personnel is carried out under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, which was brought in to help police and MI5 monitor terrorists. Last year, the department paid out £135.5million to injured service personnel — including £6.5million to somebody hurt in an assault course fall. The MoD said: “Surveillance should be of no concern to claimants with a legitimate claim and where the alleged injury has not been exaggerated.”

Flights were delayed in some European travel hubs, including the continent’s busiest at Heathrow Airport near London, on Saturday, after technical problems with check-in systems that two airports attributed to a cyberattack on Friday evening. The delays had lingered through the day and had become widespread. At least five airports — Berlin-Brandenburg, Brussels, Dublin and Cork in Ireland, and Heathrow — said that the technical issue was affecting departing passengers. Heathrow and Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany’s third-largest, said the problem was with Collins Aerospace, an American company that provides check-in and boarding systems there and at other airports, causing longer waiting times for passengers. RTX, the company’s corporate parent, said in a statement on Saturday that there was a “cyber-related disruption” in its systems at some airports and that it was working to restore “full functionality to our customers as quickly as possible.” It added that airport staff could work around the issue by switching to manual check-ins.
