Southern border to reopen next monthThe border checkpoint in Sadao district of Songkhla (Photo: Assawin Pakkawan)The government is planning to reopen the Thai-Malaysia border next month to stimulate tourism and the economy in the deep southern provinces. "The prime minister is confident Thailand will remain one of the world's top tourist destinations despite the pandemic. "The government will support efforts to revitalise tourism, with an emphasis on public health and safety," Ms Rachada said. Dr Suthep Phetmak, inspector-general attached to public health zone 12, said the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia and Thailand are similar. It is also important to coordinate with other agencies to follow through with problem-solving efforts," Mr Wiroj said. "Most importantly, taking care of Bangkok residents' interests should be first on the governor's list of priorities. Mr Wiroj also offered his take on how to tackle the capital's traffic woes, one of the many long-standing problems affecting city residents. Responding to criticism that the subsidy could see the BMA end up in the red, Mr Wiroj said public service must take precedence over profitability. In fact, Bangkok residents are the CEO who will decide to choose a Bangkok governor who will serve as the company's manager," Mr Wiroj said.

Myanmar poses Asean quandaryIn the year following the coup in Myanmar which unseated Aung San Suu Kyi, the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner and then State Counsellor (a position equivalent to prime minister), the country's military has continued to pursue a policy of violence against detractors, leaving the world aghast. Democratically elected legislators, including leader Suu Kyi, were charged and imprisoned. Next week, Asean will hold a meeting in Cambodia; the Myanmar issue as well as the anticipated invitation of an Asean envoy to Nay Pyi Taw will almost certainly be discussed. In Myanmar, the conflict rages on despite the best efforts of Asean and the United Nations. Last month, the NUG was listed among the nominees for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.

These days, many are turning their backs on traditional medicine for a more integrative approach to their health. After all, our DNA could be seen as an algorithm ready to be edited to accomplish the seemingly impossible. Soon, biotechnology entered the scope of bionics and migrated skin-deep, with chips that gave direct feedback about the body that was transmitted to software for analysis. This adversely affects physical health both in the short term and the long term. For example, using a consolidative blend of conventional medicine and alternative therapies such as hormonal rebalancing, IV infusions, and physiotherapy to rejuvenate the body.

2021: Reclaiming a year of crisisHow many of us started 2021 with a sense of cautious optimism that the worst of the pandemic was behind us? Fortunately, we are surrounded by innovative business partners and passionate professionals who inspired us to face these obstacles head on. The Tourism Council of Thailand estimates that 36% of hospitality businesses closed and 550,000 jobs were lost during quarter two 2021. From a client perspective the Business Service Centre ticks some important boxes. We also run business service centres for trainees to perform administrative tasks outsourced to us from the commercial sector.

Hopes pinned on India travel bubbleTourists from India pose for pictures at Phra Tamnak Hill in Pattaya, a prime spot for enjoying panoramic views of Pattaya City and Pattaya Bay, on June 14, 2018. (Bangkok Post file photo)Thailand will soon initiate a travel bubble with India with the main goal of attracting high-value young Indian visitors who can make a significant contribution to the recovery of the kingdom's tourism-dependent economy. In 2019, this generated about 80 billion baht for Thailand's tourism income, a 20% rise from the previous year when India had already become Thailand's third-largest tourism market, with over 300 flights running from India to Thailand, the spokesman added. "India is a high-value tourism market given it has 600-700 million people aged 29 years and under," she said. Thailand's main rivals for Indian tourists are Dubai and Singapore, she said.

Therefore, investors should keep an eye on the global environment to diversify risk and optimise their portfolios in the long term. Although the investment world still faces many challenges, Citi analysts are optimistic about cyclical industries that have benefited from the changing environment. They also see the opportunity to drive sustainable returns and leverage the capital market, to increase returns from holding cash or fixed-income investments. They recommend diversifying in various industries which can be categorised into three themes, which are:Long-term leaders – Switch from rebound investing to sustain returns. It is expected that the fixed income segment to provide the best returns are the emerging market bonds in Asia, high yield bonds and US treasuries.
