Steam’s downloads page just got a lot more informative
Many of these changes have been available in beta for months, but now they’re hitting the software’s stable release channel. The update overhauls the downloads page and introduces a much improved section for managing your storage, amongst a host of other tweaks and fixes. The downloads page has seen the bulk of the improvements. For starters, as well as showing download progress, the page also now shows installation progress. Screenshot: SteamSteam’s storage management section has also been improved to make it easier to see your available storage and move games between drives.

President to attend 76th UN General Assembly in New York
The 76th United Nations General Assembly is due to be held in New York on the 21st of September, and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has confirmed his attendance. This will be President Gotabaya’s first International conference since becoming president of Sri Lanka, according to a media release from the President’s Media Division. The President plans on discussing the economy, education, agriculture and few other trades for bilateral relations with other Heads of State. Foreign Minister G. L Peiris, Head Presidential Advisor Lalith Weeratunga and Foreign Ministry Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage will be accompanying the President to the United States to attend the conference. Accordingly, this will be the smallest Sri Lankan delegation to attend the United Nations General Assembly in recent history.

President’s efforts foiled a food shortage conspiracy: Bandula
Due to the decision taken by the President to raid rice mills which are hoarding stocks, a conspiracy to create a food shortage in the country was foiled, Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana told the media yesterday (09). He went on to say how suppliers had not participated in the call for tenders by Sathosa, which in turn created a situation where there was a lack of rice and other essential foods at Sathosa outlets. Gunawardana praised President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for foiling this conspiracy by understanding the plans of traders and appointing the Essential Services Commissioner to attend to this matter. He also reassured the public that such disruptions on the supply of essential food will not take place any longer.

But what’s interesting about Twitter’s emoji choices for its latest test is that none of them are especially negative. There’s no “Angry face” like you’ll find on Facebook, or “Thumbs down” like in Twitter’s direct message emoji reactions. Twitter explains that it decided against choosing these negative emoji because people it surveyed said “they were concerned about receiving negative reactions to some of their thoughts.” A valid concern given how toxic many conversations on Twitter can be.

Another 175 COVID fatalities confirmed in Sri Lanka
September 9, 2021 07:24 pmThe Director-General of Health Services has confirmed another 175 coronavirus-related deaths for September 08 (yesterday), increasing the official death toll in the country to 10,864. According to the figures reported by the Department of Government Information today (09)the victims include 96 males and 79 females while only one are below the age of 30. Thirty-five of the Covid-19 deaths are individuals between the ages of 30-59, and the remaining 139 are persons aged 60 and above.

League of Legends’ world championships will take place in Iceland
The League of Legends World Championship, the concluding tournament that brings together the best teams from across the world, will take place in Reykjavík, Iceland at the Laugardalshöll indoor sporting arena. Riot Games revealed the news today, following the August announcement that the event would be moved from China to Europe. Reykjavík was also this year’s location for League’s other big international tournament, the Mid-Season Invitational, which took place in May. “While maintaining our focus on ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved in hosting, producing, and competing at the event, Worlds 2021 will not host a live audience. The early play-in stage will take place from October 5-9th, followed by the group stage from October 11-18th.

The Matrix: Resurrections trailer is finally here
The long-awaited trailer for the fourth Matrix installment is finally here alongside the film’s official title: The Matrix: Resurrections. The trailer for Resurrections was first previewed at a CinemaCon presentation from Warner Bros. Pictures on Tuesday, August 24th, in Las Vegas before being released to the public today. The trailer features clips of Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Neil Patrick Harris playing the role of Neo’s therapist. We’re also left to ponder what’s real and what’s simulated along a shifting timeline in true Matrix fashion. The Matrix: Resurrections is written and directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-directed and co-wrote the first three Matrix films with her sister Lilly Wachowski.

Foreign Minister calls for enhanced economic cooperation with Iran
Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has sought greater economic cooperation with Iran, including enhanced bilateral trade, investment and the possibilities of cooperation in new sectors, such as tourism and energy. The Minister made this request when the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hashem Ashjazadeh called on him at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday (08). In his opening remarks, Foreign Minister Peiris highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Iran which have a proud legacy of two ancient and great civilizations. Rejected: Shares in EasyJet have fallen sharply today after the airline revealed it had rejected a takeover bidEasyJet said in a statement: 'The board recently received an unsolicited preliminary takeover approach. In a bid to ramp up its recovery, EasyJet has confirmed that it is seeking to raise around £1.2billion from shareholders via a rights issue. EasyJet said it would use the rights issue to bolster its balance sheet and take advantage of growth opportunities that arise from the expected recovery in Europe's aviation market over the coming years. EasyJet is the latest recipient of a takeover bid, although the suitor has already been fought off. The rights issue is underwritten by BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Santander and Societe Generale.
