WhatsApp brings multi-device support to iOS beta
WhatsApp’s beta program has finally reached a wide rollout across iOS and now allows all users on the latest version of WhatsApp to access the multi-device option. The new feature brings support for using one WhatsApp account across up to four devices including a macOS/Windows computer, a Facebook Portal, or a device running a WhatsApp Web session. WhatsApp Multi-Device Beta screens (via: XDA Developers)Users on the latest 2.21.180.14 version of WhatsApp for iOS who’ve enrolled in the beta program will now get a multi-device prompt under the Linked Devices section within Settings. The big addition of using multi-device support is that you don’t have to keep your phone online. As with all beta software, WhatsApp warns that some features may not work properly or may come with some issues.

SLC denies allegations by certain media reports
Sri Lanka Cricket today said it vehemently denies allegations leveled by certain media reports, which cited that some of the players in the Sri Lanka national team, who played in the T20i series against South Africa, did not fully commit themselves or deliberately underperformed on the field. “Sri Lanka Cricket has not received such a complaint from the ‘Team Management’ against any player of the national squad.”“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform you that it was the same group of players who played in the ODI series which Sri Lanka won against South Africa,” it said in a statement. Sri Lanka not only won the ODI series vs South Africa 2 – 1 but also gained crucial points and climbed up in the rankings of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, the SLC said. The country’s cricket governing body added that it is understood and acknowledged by the fans that the Sri Lanka National Team, since the recent past, is progressing forward by winning important contests and heading in the right direction. “Therefore, Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to request from the respective news organizations, which published the false and fabricated news item to follow ethical journalism practices, as such, false reporting will destabilize and scuttle the National Team’s preparations ahead of the crucial ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”Such false reporting will also mentally affect the players, who are showing commitment and desire to count their presence in the team, as witnessed in the recent competitions Sri Lanka played, the release said.

Apple’s premium smartphone success is leaving Samsung, Huawei well behind
Apple just launched the iPhone 13 series, but the company has its outgoing model line to thank for its booming success in the premium smartphone market. Across the entire premium smartphone market, this specific price band accounted for 36% of premium smartphone sales in Q1 2021 — a growth of 182% year-over-year. Samsung hung on to 22% of the premium market in Q2 2020, but this share dropped to 17% in Q2 2021. The latter grew its premium stake from 4% to 6% between Q2 2020 and Q2 2021, adding to its success across all pricing bands in Q2 2021. Other Android smartphone makers are slowly joining the big four in the premium segment.

SpaceX's first all-civilian crew begins their journey to space
The four members of the Inspiration4 mission emerged from SpaceX’s Hangar X facility at Kennedy Space Center in Florida around 4:05pm ET, as they start their journey to becoming the first all-civilian crew in space. Although this is not the first time civilians have travelled to space, Inspiration4 is the first mission manned solely by civilians. The team will be aboard a specially modified version of SpaceX's capsule Crew Dragon, featuring a domed window or 'Cupola' to allow some sensational views of space. A few days later, a 30-second advertisement was broadcast during the SuperBowl break, directing potential Inspiration4 crew members to apply on its website. These four pillars also correspond to the four members of the crew – Isaacman, Arceneaux, Sembroski and Proctor, respectively, according to the Inspiration4 website.

Sri Lanka commemorates the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer annually on 16 September. Considering the prevailing pandemic, the national event for World Ozone Day 2021 is organized virtually via zoom platform at 10.00 a.m. today with the global theme ‘Montreal Protocol: Keeping us, our food and vaccines cool’. The Ministry of Environment uses World Ozone Day as a means to raise awareness and widen engagement of different segments in the community. Climate change was a big theme in Time Magazine’s 2021 list of “Most Influential People,” with a handful of climate scientists and environmental advocates making the list along with celebrities like Dolly Parton and Naomi Osaka. 2021 isn’t the first year rock star environmentalists have made Time’s list. Tackling climate change is “possibly the greatest challenge humanity has faced,” one of the people who made the list, Fatih Birol, said in a statement today. The group found that this summer’s road-buckling heatwave in the US Pacific Northwest and southwest Canada would have been “virtually impossible” without climate change. Thanks in large part to the group’s work, leading climate scientists can say definitively that human activity is the main driver behind increasingly apocalyptic weather.
