Citing simulations, the DoE projected that between April and May, a slight decrease in power reserves could occur ahead of the expiry of the build-operate-transfer contract for the 1,200-megawatt Ilijan power plant. The Energy department has since taken back its concerns and clarified there will be ample power supplies before, during, and after the 2022 elections. Fuentebella said the thinning of power reserves did not mean brownouts during the polling period. What we stated there is there is enough power [for the May 2022 elections]," Cusi said.
