Rahim Yar Khan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where regional issues and prospects for further enhancing cooperation in various fields, including defense cooperation, were discussed. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Sheikh Zayed Palace in Rahim Yar Khan, where the Prime Minister was also accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and other senior officials. The statement said that this meeting was part of the continuation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s first official visit to Pakistan as President of the UAE. The Prime Minister reiterated the commitment to transform the long-standing, brotherly relations between Pakistan and the UAE into a strong, strategic and mutually beneficial economic partnership and stressed the need for a significant increase in bilateral trade. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, in addition to bilateral cooperation, regional and global issues were also discussed in the meeting, and this meeting is a reflection of the strong relations between the two brotherly countries.

Ex-DG ISI Faiz Hameed files appeal against military court sentence
Former DG ISI Faiz Hameed has filed an appeal against the sentence handed down by a military court. Confirming the development, lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq, who represents retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, said that an appeal against the military court’s verdict was filed on December 27, though he declined to share further details. He said that investigations against Faiz Hameed under the Army Act began on August 12, 2024, and after 15 months of inquiry, the sentence was awarded. Under Section 133-B of the Pakistan Army Act, Faiz Hameed had 40 days to file an appeal against the Field General Court Martial’s decision after the announcement of the verdict. According to the law, the appeal against a military court’s sentence is reviewed by a Court of Appeals constituted by the Army Chief.

Pakistan rejects Israel's recognition of Somaliland
Pakistan on Monday strongly rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calling it an illegal act violating Somalia’s sovereignty, international law, and regional stability. Lahore Basant notification challenged in LHC
A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court, challenging a notification issued by the deputy commissioner (DC) Lahore granting permission for Basant celebrations in February 2026. The petition was filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique, who raised concerns over the safety risks associated with kite flying. The petition further noted that, in the past, kite flying and its associated risks have led to the loss of precious lives. The petitioner has pleaded court to revoke the notification issued by the DC and suspend it until a final decision is made on the matter. Eight teams participated in the championship in which Peshawar Corps emerged victorious, while Gujranwala Corps secured the runners-up position.
