The volume of the federal development budget is likely to be set at Rs700 billion and a sum of Rs1.58 trillion is expected to be allocated for defence. During the first half of previous fiscal year, the federal budget deficit had been slightly lower than Rs1.4 trillion. The annual federal budget deficit target was Rs4 trillion for the current fiscal year. The PTI-led government had taken a net Rs1.02 trillion in foreign loans to finance the federal deficit. Current expenditures were equal to 92% of the total federal government expenditures and over 38% of them were spent only on paying interest on loans.

Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Jahawarke village of Mansa district in Punjab, The Tribune reported. The attack took place just a day after the Punjab government withdrew security cover for 424 persons, including Moose Wala. Moose Wala, along with two others, were taken to Mansa Hospital after the attack. “Three people were brought to the hospital, out of which Sidhu Moose Wala was dead,” Ranjeet Rai, a civil surgeon at the hospital said. The party’s student union National Secretary Roshan Lal Bittu questioned the state government’s decision to withdraw Moose Wala’s security.

As three seats for Supreme Court judges lie vacant, senior apex court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa has again strongly advocated for the elevation of high court chief justices to the country's superior court in the absence of an objective criteria. Justice Isa also provided reasons as to why junior high court judges should not be elevated to the SC. However, Justice Isa claimed that the practice was discarded by two former CJPs, Mian Saqib Nisar and Gulzar Ahmed. This resulted in the bypassing of chief justices and senior judges of the high courts," Justice Isa wrote. However, Justice Isa claimed, that a few weeks later the ex-CJP proposed the same chief justice for appointment as an ad-hoc judge to the Supreme Court.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said that those who “installed” incumbent rulers in power will be held responsible for the country’s destruction and added that it was the collective responsibility of the entire nation and institutions to save the country from “thieves”. “The country is heading towards destruction and it’s not only my responsibility but the responsibility of the entire nation and institutions to stop this,” he said while addressing a press conference in Peshawar on Saturday. The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Friday expressed its deep concern over the pronouncement of life sentence for one of the most prominent Kashmiri leaders Yasin Malik, who had been leading a peaceful freedom struggle for many decades. Reiterating its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for their rights including their right for self-determination, the General Secretariat urged the international community to ensure that the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiris for the realization of their rights must not be equated with terrorism. The General Secretariat called on the Government of India to release all Kashmiri leaders unfairly incarcerated, halt forthwith the gross and systematic persecution of Kashmiris in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK); and respect the right of the people of IIOJK to determine their own future through a free and impartial plebiscite as enshrined in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
