Pre-matchBoth sides made some changes, with Vincenzo Italiano opting for Sofyan Amrabat, Riccardo Saponara, and Krzysztof PiÄ…tek. Max Allegri switched to a 3-5-2 with Paulo Dybala and Fiorentina legend Giorgio Chiellini in the side, while Dušan Vlahović only started from the bench. On a gloriously sunny day, the Fiorentina players brought their families out ahead of kickoff to bask in an incredible carnival atmosphere. However, that trademark Allegri deep block proved an obstacle and the Viola struggled to break down their visitors. Aside from a brief period of pressure around the 20 minute mark, that was pretty much the first 45 minutes.

Dr Hafeez Shaikh, an economist with deep connections with the IMF and the World Bank, belongs to the same category of technocrats. Like Hafeez Shaikh, he too was born in Jacobabad, Sindh, and scion of an elitist family. After the said defeat, Dr Hafeez Shaikh opted to leave the country for another time. Presumably the corruption-fighting outfit with draconian powers, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), also had some questions to ask from Dr Hafeez Shaikh. The VVIP but mysterious ‘welcome’, Dr Sheikh had relished, motivated many observers to imagine that he was rather “invited” by ultimate setters of our political scenarios.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was playing the ‘woman card’ over the arrest of their leader and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, who was taken into custody by Islamabad police on Thursday. Maryam said she did not have complete information regarding the case against Mazari but added that anti-corruption department must have sufficient grounds for her arrest. PTI led government did not do anything except political victimisation during its four-year rule,” she remarked. PTI should not use woman card to condemn the arrest of its leader as they subjected their political opponents including women to worst victimisation when they were in power, she added. Recalling her ordeal, Maryam said she was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during PTI rule in “bogus case” and was held at solitary confinement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had received 30% of the support given to former prime minister Imran Khan by the establishment, the country would have progressed very swiftly. “The objective of banning (import of luxury item) – for a specific time – is to save foreign exchange and bring stability,” the prime minister said. The import ban will also support the local industry,” the prime minister continued. In his message, Erdogan assured Pakistan that Turkey would provide all support needed to strengthen Pakistan’s military infrastructure. Earlier, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar held delegation-level talks with the prime minister.

The decision, released yesterday, followed the Supreme Court in its interpretation of Article 63 and de-seated 25 dissident MPAs of the PTI who voted for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Hamza Shehbaz in the election for Punjab chief minister. However, not unlike the Supreme Court verdict, this decision of the ECP may have given way to more questions than answers now. Confusion resides upon what the makeup of the Punjab Assembly is to be, and who holds the posts of power. PML-N insists that the ECP’s decision will not affect the Punjab government, which consists of allies and the PML-N, and believes that the chief ministership of Hamza Shehbaz will remain intact. It appears elections are the only answer, but more than 20 by-elections in Punjab will be an expensive, time-consuming and chaotic process, considering the violence we have seen in recent by-elections.

Web surfing can now instantly proffer the tomes of Arabic texts and translations, commentaries and information from almost any source or language in the language, form and format preferred by the learners. This policy is also essential because Arabic is a highly technical language with quite complex genders, nouns, verbs, pronunciation and grammatical perplexities. No student with an average IQ, motivation, aptitude and the allied scroll of courses, can garner the competence to translate the Arabic texts during the given higher secondary spans. Yet some of them would indeed be infatuated with Arabic and motivated to seek excellence and advancement in it. This is because Arabic, besides being the language of Quranic revelation, is the sixth largest spoken language of the world.

After getting ousted from the government through a no-confidence motion, former prime minister Imran Khan has come up with another misleading slogan of ‘freeing Pakistan from the US slavery’ after the utter failure of his so-called ‘Tabdeeli’ slogan and ‘Naya Pakistan’ narrative during his government. Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal said this on Friday while speaking at a party event in which a large number of women from District East announced their joining of the PSP. “Khan is shamelessly misleading the entire nation,” Kamal said, adding that the former prime minister had proved himself a hypocrite by failing to pursue the case of lifetime imprisoned Dr Aafia Siddiqui in the United States. With the help of the US, India annexed Kashmir a few days after Khan's visit to the US, he said. During the public meeting on May 14, Kamal asked Khan to apologise to the citizens of Karachi for doing nothing for them during his three-and-a-half-year stint in power.
