In essence, the continuous borrowing means that Pakistan is spending an enormous amount of its budget on servicing debt: Today more than half of government revenue goes towards paying foreign debt and this percentage will increase unless the country gets relief. Nor do they have enough to invest for the future: In health systems to get ready for unforeseen eventualities (e.g. For example, Zambia, which was reclassified recently (last year) as a low-income country, has by now spent nearly three years trying to restructure its debt, albeit with no success. As a result, Zambia has been in debt purgatory, shut out of IMF funds and unable to attract private investment while the talks continue. Finally, one feels that in order to meaningfully help countries currently drowning in debt, a Covid-era like two years pause in repayment of foreign debt should be reinstated to allow them some breathing room to not only bring their debt under control but to also make investments in a sustainable future.

By Paul DeMarcoWe are now just past the half way point of the current session of the Alabama Legislature. While there has been a lot accomplished, there is still a lot to do. With significant budget surpluses this year, there are a lot of eyes watching where state funds are being appropriated. In addition, the decades long issues of problems with the state’s corrections facility have got to be addressed sooner rather than later. Share:ISLAMABAD-Sustainable growth requires formulation and implementation of productivity-enhancing reforms which would facilitate a better allocation of resources and hence improve regional and global integration, say experts. Talking to WealthPK, National Productivity Organization (NPO) CEO Muhammad Alamgir Chaudry said Pakistan was witnessing low productivity mainly due to regulatory complexities, lack of technological adaptations, and low level of trade openness. A long-term growth agenda requires alleviation of the aforementioned distortions to attain sustainable development, Alamgir opined. Low productivity leads to high input costs and loss of competitiveness in the international market. The reforms recommended by Suleri include encouraging innovation, improving environmental conditions, streamlining regulations, promoting a competition-based economic system, and rethinking the export strategy.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand: New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said on Monday he personally favours his country becoming a republic, but it’s not a change he intends to push for as leader. Hipkins made the comments to reporters hours before he was due to depart for this week’s coronation of King Charles III in London. New Zealand, a former British colony, is self-governing but Charles retains a largely ceremonial role as head of state and king. Like many former British colonies, New Zealand continues to wrestle with what — if any — constitutional role the British monarchy should play in modern times. Hipkins unexpectedly rose to power following the shock decision in January of former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to step down.

In my opinion if we saw a sudden departure from recent inflationary trends, that would certainly catch the attention of the Federal Reserve. I mentioned earlier that markets seemingly do not trust the Federal Reserve, and you could characterize that as fear. Let’s talk about inflation at the tangible goods level, the services level, and the shelter level. The reason is simply that the forces impacting inflation at the services level are unique, and different from forces that impact inflation in other areas. You could argue that while the Fed is attempting to control inflation at a headline level, it is making inflation at the shelter level worse.
