Experts call for anticipatory climate adaptation to cope crisis in region
ISLAMABAD-Experts at a high-level roundtable called upon Thursday, the government and policymakers to come up with an inclusive and holistic approach to meet the exacerbating climate crisis through anticipatory adaptation. To become future-fit, he said, it is important to understand future risks and take anticipatory actions. Amina Maharjan, Senior Specialist Livelihoods and Migration, ICIMOD briefed the participants on the foresight and future thinking for anticipatory adaptation in the region, methods to explore future pathways in terms of foresight, scenario development, development of efficient strategies and understanding foresight beyond predictions. Sultan Mehmood, the World Food Programme (WFP) representative, mentioned the climate adaptation-related interventions being implemented through the WFP collaboration, particularly the Living Indus Initiative. Dr Shafqat Munir, Deputy Executive Director, SDPI informed the forum that amid discourse on anticipatory approaches, it is required to have systems capable to workout disaster risk reduction and climate change anticipatory adaptation and foresight models.

The action is a component of the September-initiated FX market reforms, which aim to restrict unlawful dollar trade and outflow, lower volatility, and strengthen regulatory oversight of open market activities. The bank has already ordered the major banks to “establish their wholly owned exchange companies to cater to the legitimate foreign exchange needs of the general public to foster efficiency,” and it has given smaller exchange companies three months to become fully fledged forex firms. The government should take strict measures to control under-invoicing of imports in order to increase dollar inflows through remittances, even though the reforms are essential for the stability of the currency rate. The market cannot be completely healed by treating one symptom while ignoring others.

Crash near Anniston kills 24-year-old man
From Tribune staff reportsCALHOUN COUNTY — A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, has claimed the life of an Anniston man, according to Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. “Juan G. Deleon, 24, was fatally injured when the 2006 Chevrolet Express 2500 that he was driving left the roadway and overturned,” O’Neal said. “Deleon was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”The crash occurred on Eulaton Road, approximately five miles west of Anniston, in Calhoun County. No further information is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

Shehbaz terms PHC’s verdict attack on ECP’s authority
Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, has likened the Peshawar High Court's (PHC) decision to suspend the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) iconic bat symbol to an “attack” on the commission's authority.
