Islamabad: The Petroleum Division has issued a declaration regarding fuel prices in the country. In the statement issued by the Petroleum Division, it is said that per liter of petrol has become cheaper by 64 rupees 4 paise from 16 September to 16 December 2023 and the price of diesel has decreased by 52 rupees 99 paise per liter. The prices of petroleum products have been drastically reducedIt is stated in the statement that on 16 September 2023, the price of petrol was Rs 331 38 paise per liter and now the price of petrol per liter has come down to Rs 267 34 paise. According to the statement, on December 16, the price of high-speed diesel per liter was 329 rupees 18 paise, which has now reduced to 276 rupees 19 paise. It should be noted that the government also announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products yesterday, according to which petrol has been reduced by 14 rupees per liter while the price of diesel has been reduced by 13 rupees 50 paise per liter.

IMF wants increase in tax on salaried class
The mission also recommended an increase in the existing reduced sales tax rates to the standard 18%, except for some essential goods, the sources added. At present, the salaried class income tax rates range from the low of 2.5% to the high of 35%, depending on the annual income. In case of deleting two to three tax slabs, the tax rates for the people earning from Rs200,000 to Rs300,000 would see a sharp increase, they added. A significant tax base comprising unsalaried individuals and sole proprietors including retailers are out of the income tax net. Sources said that the IMF also suggested that Pakistan should end the preferential sales tax rates being administered under the 8th Schedule of the Sales Tax Act.

Three dacoits shot dead in encounter with police
RAWALPINDI - The most wanted dacoits were shot dead in an encounter with police in Fauji Colony, the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Pirwadhai, informed a police spokesman on Thursday. The dacoits, identified as Javed alias Jeeda, Fazal Rehman aka Parchona and Izat Ullah, were involved in a series of street crimes in areas of Fauji Colony, Hazara Colony, Taxila, Saddar Wah and other parts of city, he added. However, two others dacoits managed to flee from the scene while taking advantage of darkness. According to sources, police, on a tip off, carried out a raid in Fauji Colony to bust the notorious Jeeda Dacoit Gang. Pinson man among 2 dead, 1 wounded in Birmingham shooting
