According to him, “we must all be grateful to God for the recently concluded Presidential Election. “All political parties and candidates must understand that Rome was not built in a day. I am quite disturbed by the utterances of some elders, the allegations of the candidates and the parties who have lost the election. “To the religious leaders, the pulpit is not for politics on a Friday afternoon or Sunday morning. This does not stop anyone from participating in political debates or aspiring to be a candidate but I believe the pulpit is not for preaching politics or casting aspersions on elected leaders,” he emphasised.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, against the manipulation of the results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections to favour a particular candidate against the wishes of the electorate. Ohanaeze gave the warning in a statement on Sunday, saying that the manipulation of election results is an invitation for anarchy as Nigerians would not accept anything less than to ensure that their votes count. Ohanaeze said, “Professor Yakubu is reminded that Nigerians went into this election based on his assurances that the deployment of BVAS by INEC was a perfect antidote to electoral malpractices in Nigeria. “It will therefore be very unfortunate if what is going on across Nigeria is allowed to continue. “It is most regrettable that some agents of darkness are bent on using INEC to test the will of Nigerians.

By: Taoheed AdegbiteAs the result of Saturday’s presidential and National assembly elections continue trickling in, there has been growing concern over uploading of blurry result sheets on the INEC portal. Checks by our reporter observed that figures in some of the result sheets uploaded as of the time of filing this report are not visible. Tribune Online earlier reported that the President of INEC, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, while meeting with foreign observers on Wednesday, had explained that raw election figures will not be transmitted electronically. According to him, the presiding officers would be required to use the BVAS to snap the election results on the results sheet from each polling unit, and upload them on INEC Result Viewing Portal for Nigerians to see. He added that the decision was taken to avoid hacking as raw figures were more susceptible to hacking.

As a result of the late arrival of INEC officials and voting materials, the commencement of voter accreditation and voting started after the 8.30 am.
