Kidnappers demand N100m for abducted Benue church members
The abductors of nine worshipers at St John’s Catholic Church, Ojije in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, have demanded a ransom of N100m, PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday. The victims, comprising women and youths, were holding a vigil at the church when they were abducted around 2 a.m. on Sunday. According to a family member of one of the victims, who spoke anonymously, the abductors first made contact with the families on Wednesday and demanded the sum of N100m. The source added that during negotiations in the early hours of Thursday, the kidnappers reduced the ransom to N30m. The chairman of Ado Local Government, Sunday Oche, declined to comment on the ransom but assured our correspondent that security personnel were working towards the safe rescue of the victims.

Appeal Court reserves judgement in PDP leadership dispute
The convention produced Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the National Chairman of the PDP alongside other national officers. He also prayed the court to set aside the judgment and orders of the trial court. Other respondents also urged the court to dismiss the appeal, describing it as lacking in merit and an academic exercise. He restrained the electoral body from accepting or recognising the outcome of any PDP convention not conducted in line with due process, guidelines and regulations. He ordered that a valid notice of the convention must be issued and signed by both the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.

Police arrest two suspected kidnappers in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has said it had arrested two persons suspected to be kidnappers at Ayede Community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state . It was earlier reported that some bandits attacked the Ayede community and kidnapped a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi. Siemens project to add 7,000MW to Nigeria's power grid
The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, has said that the first phase of the Siemens power project will add 7,000 megawatts to the national grid through extensive grid strengthening and infrastructure expansion. The Siemens deal, originally conceived under Buhari, was designed as a government-to-government framework between Nigeria and Germany to overhaul Nigeria’s transmission and distribution infrastructure, improve grid stability, and gradually increase available power capacity. “Everybody is aware of that,” he said when asked about claims that the Siemens deal went dormant under Buhari. So, that’s where we are; we are on Phase One of the Siemens deal now,” he said. On December 1, 2023, the governments of Nigeria and Germany signed the Presidential Power Initiative agreement to inject 12,000 megawatts of electricity into the national grid.

Nigerian-American marine dies after falling overboard in Caribbean

Credit: BBCA U.S. Marine of Nigerian descent, Chukwuemeka Oforah, has been declared dead following a tragic incident in which he fell overboard from the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima in the Caribbean Sea. His death was announced on Wednesday and remains under investigation by the military, according to a BBC report on Thursday. Oforah, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, was deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2023 and graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in February 2024.
