NSCDC intercepts 75 drums of chemicals in Zamfara

Abia police confirm cop beheaded, assure informant's protection
The Abia State Police Command confirmed the decapitation of an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Aba last Tuesday. Army Chief donates VVF ward to Sokoto hospital
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Faruk Yahaya has donated a fully equipped Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) patient ward to the people of Goronyo local government in Goronyo general hospital in Sokoto State. The hospital ward was constructed under the Chief of Army Staff, Army-Civil relationship in the country. ”COAS had approved the construction of VVF ward in the last eight months and completed on Jan. 30, this year. It was equipped with all the necessary facilitaties for VVF treatment and a hospital ward, ” Yahaya said. In a related development, NAOWA President launched the distribution of working tools to 78 trained women under NAOWA empowerment support programme in Giginya barracks Sokoto.

Poverty alleviation: FG plans budget allocation for geospatial data
The Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba, has disclosed that the Federal Government plans to include an allocation for geospatial data in the budgets of government agencies. “Part of what we have done again is to introduce another budget line for the geospatial information system. Just as we have budget line for M&E, now going forward, we will also ensure that there is a budget line for the implementation of geospatial information system. Over 200 million people affected by hunger in 2022 — Report
The number of people suffering from hunger or experiencing food insecurity rose worldwide in 2022, according to an analysis by international organisations including the European Union and different UN agencies. The report, which was released on Wednesday, found that more than a quarter billion people experienced acute hunger or suffered from catastrophic famines in 2022. Compared to 2021, the number of people classified in the three highest levels of food insecurity increased from 193 million to 258 million. The report also had contributions from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). “That’s unconscionable.”“The latest figures on the global acute food insecurity situation paint a very concerning picture,” said Rein Paulsen, the FAO’s director for emergencies and resilience.
