A couple, Omolara Alashe, 36, and her husband, Ramoni Lateef, 40, were remanded on Tuesday, 9th April, 2023, by an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping and abusing their 19-year-old housekeeper. The pair is being tried for alleged rape, assault, theft, and sexual assault. They live in Igbonla, Ketu, Lagos State. Earlier, Insp Donjor Perezi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendants committed the crimes at their home sometime in March. According to Perezi, the first defendant’s spouse had sex with their housekeeper, who was 19 years old.

A 23-year-old assistant pastor on Tuesday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how a bishop, Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, allegedly raped her twice. She told the court that she was an assistant pastor of 1 Reign Christian Ministry founded by the bishop. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Tuesday said that two ships had arrived at the Lagos Port Complex and were waiting to berth with petrol. The authority said that 23 other ships were expected at the port from May 9 to May 25 with general cargo, frozen fish, container, petrol, base oil, bulk wheat and bulk gypsum. Other cargoes expected are: butane gas, bulk fertiliser, pro/butane gas and soya oil. It said that 18 other ships were discharging general cargo, bulk wheat, frozen fish, petrol, container, base oil, bulk gypsum, bulk sugar and broken glass.

Some terrorists have reportedly invaded the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, in Southern Kaduna, kidnapping nine of his children in the town. Among those abducted by the terrorists were his grandchildren and three others. The incident, according to a resident, took place around 11.30 pm on Sunday. The resident claimed the terrorists stormed the town and headed straight to the monarch’s palace. A graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Ondo state, identified as Gbenga Moses, was found dead inside his room in the university town. The remains of the young man who graduated from the Department of Philosophy was found unconscious in his room after he failed to come out from his room. According to a source, the young man and his girlfriend were treated at Aduloju Hospital in Iwaro and discharged but the young man died later. Another source said the deceased and his girlfriend were treated for typhoid but said Gbenga was found dead inside his room after neighbours broke into his room when he was not seen the next day. The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Olusegun Akanbi, who confirmed Gbenga’s death, who confirmed the development said the young man died on Sunday morning.

President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday vowed that Russian forces would be defeated in Ukraine like Nazi Germany was beaten in World War II, commemorating Victory in Europe Day. “All the old evil that modern Russia is bringing back will be defeated just as Nazism was defeated,” Zelensky said in a video statement standing in front of a war memorial. A Kenyan woman is accused of murdering her 3-year-old kid because of a new boyfriend. She murdered her son and disposed of his remains in a quarry since her new boyfriend did not want a child. According to Ayoki Ayoki, who posted this on Facebook on Sunday, May 7, 2023, the event occurred in Obunga, Kisumu County. “A lady in her twenties from Obunga strangled to death her three-year-old son and dumped the body at Kanyakwar Quarry. Authorities say at least 22 people, including children, have drowned after a boat capsized in southern India. The dead included children who had come for a ride on the boat during their school holidays, Kerala’s sports minister Abdurahiman said. The minister told reporters that the boat was stuck in the muddy waters and attempts were being made to pull it out. According to a representative for Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, a team from the National Disaster Response Force was present at the scene. In the southern state of Andhra Pradesh in September 2020, 12 persons perished when a touring boat capsized on the overflowing Godavari River.

As the court hearing began, armed security personnel blocked major access roads and prevented a handful of journalists and lawyers from entering the facility. Some protesters waved Nigerian flags and displayed placards, alleging that the electoral process was flawed. None of Nigeria’s presidential election results has ever been overturned by the country’s supreme court, although analysts said this year’s vote was peculiar with the heavy deployment of technology in the electoral process. The main opposition party has said without evidence that the ruling party is plotting to interfere with the court process, adding to tensions as the country awaits the judgment of the court while preparing for the inauguration of Mr Tinubu as president. The court challenge is usually a lengthy process and is expected to last for months, beyond May 29 when Mr Tinubu is due to take over from incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
