A mother-of-three has reportedly committed suicide after her husband abandoned her and the children in Enugu state. This was because her husband left her and the kids because of economic hardship and financial difficulties. The unfortunate incident occurred last weekend in front of Ogui Police Station in Enugu, where the woman ran into a moving car and died instantly. Out of depression, she left her children at the police station, took off her clothes, and ran into a car without any clothes on. In this act of benevolence, a glimmer of hope emerges for these young souls amid the shadows of a devastating tragedy.

China sets challenging GDP target in face of regional tensions and ageing population
China has set its target for GDP growth at 5%, in line with analysts’ expectations for another year of historically modest ambitions for the economy, amid regional tensions and its demographic crisis. In a draft version, the government work report spoke of “intensifying geopolitical conflicts” as being one of the negative pressures on China’s economy. According to official statistics, China’s GDP grew by 5.2% in 2023. The International Monetary Fund predicts that China’s economy will grow by 4.6% this year. Enodo Economics, a macroeconomic forecasting firm, said: “the GDP goal has decreased in importance in recent years”.

Terrorist leader killed in Katsina counter-insurgency operation -Army
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a notorious terrorist leader, Maikusa, who is reported to be the second-in-command in the hierarchy of terrorists in Katsina State, under the leadership of another terrorist known as Modi Modi. This was disclosed in a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, on Tuesday. The statement partly read, “During the operation, troops encountered vehement resistance from the violent extremists, but gallantly overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower neutralising some while others fled in disarray. They were identified as Machika, Haro, Dan Muhammadu and Ali Alhaji Alheri, popularly called Kachalla Ali Kawaje. Machika was said to be a top terrorist bomb expert and the younger brother of a notorious terrorist, Dogo Gide, while Haro and Dan Muhammadu were specialists in kidnapping and assault operations respectively.

She noted that the project was a micro grant from Adaptation Research Alliance to SCAN in collaboration with the University of Port Harcourt and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. “Beneficiaries are also expected to go to their various communities and establish the climate smart rural women and youth groups. Ifeanyiobi also stated that improved crop varieties like cassava stems, maize (SC- 526) were also distributed to participants of the workshop (farmers) drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state. Similarly, Dr. Bassey Udom, an Associate Professor, and soil scientist at the University of Port Harcourt, said that the training would help the farmers on innovative soil practices to help cushion climate change.

President Bola Tinubu has asked Qatari captains of industry to report any Nigerian official who demands any form of bribe before allowing them to do business in the country. “Do not offer a bribe to any of our people, and if it is requested or taken from you, report to us. You will have access to me,” Tinubu said at the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum in Doha, on Sunday. France set to make abortion constitutional right
French lawmakers are expected Monday to anchor the right to abortion in the country’s constitution, in a global first that has garnered overwhelming public support. If Congress approves the move, France will become the only country in the world to clearly protect the right to terminate a pregnancy in its basic law. President Emmanuel Macron pledged last year to include enshrine abortion — legal in France since 1975 — in the constitution after the US Supreme Court in 2022 overturned the half-century-old right to the procedure, allowing states to ban or curtail it. France’s lower-house National Assembly in January overwhelmingly approved making abortion a “guaranteed freedom” in the constitution, followed by the Senate on Wednesday. Few expect any difficulty finding the needed supermajority after the three-fifths mark was largely exceeded in both previous ballots.

Nigeria targets 8,000 MW power through gas utilisation
Amid unreliable supply and power capacity hovering around 4,000MW with over 200 million population, Nigeria has made plans to reach a power capacity of 8,000MW within the next 18 months. He also mentioned the completion of the Kashimbila Dam Power Plant, contributing 40MW to the power capacity, pointing out that 10MW were already being utilised in the Taraba area, and that there was a surplus of 30 megawatts awaiting full integration into the national grid. He expressed confidence that enhancing the evacuation infrastructure would facilitate the seamless inclusion of the additional 30MW, ultimately improving the overall power supply. “In all, we have a total of almost over 13,000 MW capacity installed for power plants, both the hydro and the gas power plants. So, once all those hiccups are resolved, we can double electricity supply in Nigeria within a period of 12 to 18 months.

The First Trailer for ‘One-Punch Man’ Season 3 Has Been Revealed
One-Punch Man’s season three anime was first announced back in summer 2022. In 2015, Madhouse produced One-Punch Man’s first TV anime adaptation and the series was incredibly well-received by fans. Aside from the change in animation studio, fans were mostly disappointed in the considerably lower quality of the animation and slow pacing. However, just based on the official trailer alone, the studio appears to address some of the issues from the previous season.
