This is contained in a statement on Saturday by Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council of Sokoto.“The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not receive any report confirming the sighting of the crescent of Dhul-Qadah 1444AH on Friday. “Therefore, Saturday, May 20, will be the 30th day of Shawwal 1444AH. “The sultan has accepted the report and accordingly declared Sunday, May 21, as the first day of Dhul-Qadah 1444AH,” Junaidu said. Dhul-Qadah, one of the four sacred months in Islam, is the 11th month on the Islamic calendar, before the month of Dhul-Hijjah.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has said the Federal Government can no longer afford to pay for fuel subsidy. It noted wealthy Nigerians mostly benefited from the subsidy, and that the subsidy regime was no longer sustainable. Can you just imagine watching a football match inside a stadium and having fun in looking at your team scoring goals and suddenly you are distracted by the sound of a train passing right in front of you in the stadium? Such is the spectacle at a football stadium in a country in Europe where a rail track was builf close to the spectators stand with train passing on a regular basis while matches are being played in the stadium. Trains continue to use the line every time, even whenever matches are being played inside the stadium. It’s unclear why the municipality chose that exact location to build a football stadium, but for an entire decade, the train tracks passing through it were just part of the decor. Things however changed in the early 1990s when a group of Slovakian enthusiasts started repairing the train tracks.

An Izaga Masquerade, Friday, escaped death, as he was involved in a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at Awkuzu Junction in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra. He attributed the cause of the crash to load violation, while also noting that one of the male adults died in the crash. According to CC Irelewuyi, eyewitness account revealed that the motorcyclist carrying the Izaga Masquerade was trying to overtake the truck, but the long legs of the Izaga Masquerade that he was carrying on the motorcycle hit the truck, which made the other passenger on the motorcycle to fall off from motorcycle, and he got hit by the back tyre of the moving truck. He said, “Four male adults were involved in the crash. One male adult was killed (the pillon); one male adult was injured; while two male adults were rescued unhurt.

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has said that under the Social Protection Agenda, the Federal Government has accessed a World Bank confessional loan of US$750 million on behalf of 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The minister who was represented by the Chairman, Federal CARES Technical Committee, Rev. Aso Vakporaye explained that the loan was to stimulate the local economy and increase household’s consumption among the poor and vulnerable segment of the society.
