Let him “cook,” and if his cooking is turning into a “cook-a-thon” with no immediate impact, Nigerians, the Netizens, the good and the bad, can let hell lose. Let me introduce you to hematophagy, a high-sounding word but simple to understand: some members of the bat family eat only the blood of other animals. It has become a tool for enriching the rich and making the poor poorer to make them live comfortably. There are too many on the citizens’ plates; let Nigerians breathe, please don’t suffocate them. Don’t let us believe the lie!

Nigeria’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidies has had a significant impact, resulting in the collapse of a thriving black market in West African nations. In a report on Monday, American news platform, Reuters, noted that black market fuel vendors and commercial drivers in Cameroon, Benin and Togo, who heavily relied on smuggled petrol from Nigeria, have witnessed their businesses crumble since the subsidy removal. As fuel supplies dwindle, long queues have formed at official petrol stations, where prices are now competitive. The trade in black market fuel holds such significance in the local economy that authorities either turn a blind eye or are complicit. At the Hilacondji border crossing between Togo and Benin, some black market fuel stalls have closed, leaving vendors waiting with empty containers for potential deliveries.

The German parliament has passed legislation to open up new opportunities for job seekers from countries outside the EU and for many refugees who are already in the country. The new immigration law reform is intended to attract more non-EU citizens to migrate to Germany for employment and has finally been approved by the Bundestag. Plans to lessen the level of German language proficiency required, according to Andrea Lindholz of the CSU, would simply promote unskilled labor. Lindholz argued that the new law would do nothing to address what she called the main problem: Bureaucratic bottlenecks such as over-long procedures at foreign consulates. “What you have put together in a 100-page draft law could be summed up in one sentence,” he said.
