Again, Alex Ibru accepted ministerial appointment under the Abacha regime owing to pressure from people in government. Apart from trying to assassinate Alex Ibru, they also tried to bomb the company. On the staff/management crisis of 2007, when the newspaper started, Alex Ibru was over-generous and spoilt his staff. If you look at the history of the paper, there was no managing director for the first two or three years. Alex Ibru was very upset, but he later agreed that I should go and accept the offer.

A yet-to-be-identified person, suspected to be an electric cable vandal, has been electrocuted in Delta State. The residents were reportedly alerted by a young boy who sighted the lifeless, dangling body while on his way to the next village. ”We were alerted by a young boy who was going to the next village. At least 50 people, including eight children, have been killed by floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rains that have lashed Pakistan since last month, officials said Friday. The summer monsoon brings South Asia 70-80 percent of its annual rainfall between June and September every year. “Fifty deaths have been reported in different rain-related incidents all over Pakistan since the start of the monsoon on June 25,” a national disaster management official told AFP, adding that 87 people were injured during this period. Last summer, unprecedented monsoon rains put a third of Pakistan under water, damaging two million homes and killing more than 1,700 people. Pakistan, which has the world’s fifth largest population, is responsible for less than one percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to officials.

Abia state governor, Dr. Alex Otti, Friday inaugurated his maiden 19 – member State Executive Council recently appointed and screened by the State House of Assembly by swearing in his commissioners. Three out of the 19 commissioners were yet to be cleared by the State House of Assembly but would be sworn-in later. He said they were not appointed to represent the interest of individuals or clan but that of the entire State. THE National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has set up an eight-man committee to review the services offered to Nigerian pilgrims at the Mina during the just concluded hajj season. According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Information and Publication at NAHCON, Mousa Ubandawaki, the decision is part of the resolution adopted after a meeting between NAHCON, states’ Muslim pilgrims welfare boards and tour operators held at the commission’s in Makkah. The committee, which was inaugurated by the commissioner in charge of policy personnel management and finance (PPMF), Alhaji Nura Hassan Yakasai, on behalf of the chairman of NAHCON, Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan, is to address alleged poor services rendered to Nigerian pilgrims in Mina and Arafat during the just concluded hajj. The statement said the committee is to “review the 2023 Hajj Masha’ir services provided by Company of Muttawwifs for African Non-Arab countries; establish the services provided as contained in the contract for all packages; establish services not rendered.
