Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, has appointed Andrew Okungbowa, a former reporter at the Guardian newspaper, as his chief press secretary (CPS). In a statement on Tuesday, Osarodion Ogie, secretary to the state government (SSG), said the appointment takes immediate effect. “The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has approved the appointment of Andrew Okungbowa as his chief press secretary,” the statement reads. Before his appointment, Okungbowa was the editor of travel and tourism at the New Telegraph newspaper. Okungbowa obtained his first degree in Theatre Arts at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in 1988 and holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) began mass vaccination of cattle on Monday to curb the spread of Anthrax in the FCT. He explained that the mass vaccination exercise targets at least one million cattle across the six Area Councils of the FCT. He further mentioned that the vaccination exercise, lasting for four weeks, would be carried out simultaneously across the 62 wards of the six Area Councils of the FCT. He appealed for the cooperation of livestock owners with the veterinary health workers to ensure the success of the exercise. Malam Yahaya Isa, Chairman of the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), FCT Chapter, commended the FCTA for taking proactive steps.

Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has said that no fewer than about 156 communities in 9 Local Government Areas of the state have been affected by flood disasters in parts of the state, adding that in addition to this was also windstorms reported in both Mariga and Kontagora LGA s of the state. The Public Relations of the Agency, Malam Ibrahim Huesseni stated this in a press statement issued and obtained by the Tribune Online on Sunday. He stated further that among the affected 9 local Government Areas worse hit by the flood disaster include Mokwa, Lapai, Katcha Lavun, Gbako, Rijau, Magama and Bosso LGAs. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), via its Department of Development Control on Monday removed illegal structures erected on plot 661 B01 Gudu District, in the Apo area of Abuja, for allegedly deviating from approval granted for the space, thereby contravening Abuja land use act. It was gathered that the developer had approval from the department, but did not follow strictly the approved plan for the car park structure in the area. The enforcement team led by Chinedu Okoro, the officer in charge of the district, said prior to the removal, the team had visited and served the relevant notices, but the developer failed to comply. The Fulani dynasty that was enforced on Ilorin met a Yoruba cultural heritage that it successfully subordinated and eventually supplanted. And yet, that did not thoroughly eradicate the remnant of that Yoruba culture from surviving and multiplying within the crevices of the Ilorin Islamic “purity”. And I concede the virulent role that Christianity—especially in its Pentecostal mode—has played in undermining and negating African rich cultural heritage. It is this openness to others that the Ilorin religious elites must relearn as part of their genuine understanding of what religious sensibility demands in a plural society.
