The tech experts, in separate interviews in Lagos, said the high cost of laptops had greatly affected patronage. Mr Austin Agbakor, the Chief Executive Officer, Software Shop Ltd., said the era of COVID-19 had popularised remote working, which had, in turn, increased demand for laptops. Agbakor said that the increased demand for laptops is, however, not accompanied by increase in its supply. According to him, the unstable foreign exchange rate is responsible for making supply of laptops less than demand. “Inflation is our major problem and I believe some dealers may run into huge losses and indebtedness due to the unstable exchange rate.

Thailand’s parliament on Tuesday postponed a vote to choose a new prime minister, prolonging the kingdom’s political deadlock more than two months after an election won by opposition parties. He was refused a second ballot on July 19, but this decision is now being challenged at the Constitutional Court. House speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said the new vote for premier, scheduled for Thursday, had to wait for the court’s decision. Pita managed 324 votes across the two houses in the first ballot, with only 13 of the senators supporting him. The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, says the institution recently dismissed two academic staff members over allegations bordering on sexual misconduct. The don also told our correspondent on Monday that the institution had designed a communication channel for students to report cases of sexual harassment and other unethical acts by lecturers. Responding to our correspondent on UNIABUJA’s journey so far in the fight against sexual harassment, the VC said, “We expelled two members of the academic community. We collaborated with NGOs most of whom pursue sexual harassment matters. They can comment on whether a lecturer is doing well in class, does he attend class, so it’s not only sexual harassment alone.”The VC added that the varsity council also recently approved that students could assess their lecturers.

Lagos governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR), has expressed shock over the state government’s plan to conduct mass burial for 103 victims of the year 2020 #EndSARS protest, describing the development as vindication of panel report on Lekki Toll Gate massacre. It would be recalled that the Lagos State government has in its latest response insisted that no life was lost during the protest that took place at the Lekki Toll Gate. JANDOR condemned what he described as the “callous and inhuman treatment of innocent citizens and the desecration of their memory by the brazen-faced denial of their needless and avoidable murder”. He also posited that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu should be prosecuted if found guilty. “This of course is imminent with the state of the proceeding at the ongoing Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal,” Jandor said.
