NOPRIN warns against Police’s non-compliance with Court orders
The Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN) has expressed concern over non-compliance of Police to court orders, calling for measures in the direction, noting that such poses serious threat to violation of fundamental human rights. The foundation stated that Police defiance to comply with court orders can lead to public outcry, civil unrest, violence, and protest against police in the country. This was contained in a comprehensive research report of NOPRIN with the title; “Non-compliance with Court Orders by Officers of the Nigeria Police Force: Implications for the Criminal Justice Systems”. She disclosed that the report delved into some areas concerning trends of non-compliance with court orders by officers of the Nigeria Police Force. “NOPRIN Foundation believes that addressing non-compliance with court orders is crucial for upholding the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law in Nigeria.

I read somewhere that rice has a very high sugar content equal to that of sugar. It is therefore believed that eating rice is almost the same as eating sugar. 4th batch of Kano foreign scholarship beneficiaries depart for India
Kano State government has recently flown the fourth batch of 150 graduates, out of the 1,001 indigenous students who graduated with first-class honours, to India for their Master’s Degree programs in various disciplines. However, the aircraft, ferrying the beneficiaries, took off from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) at about 7:30 am on Friday, in the presence of the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, and other government officials. The flight would then land in Lagos for an onward journey to India. According to him, “The beneficiaries, when arrived in India, would be taken to various universities for commencement of their Masters Degree programmes”Dr Kofarmata disclosed that the students are first-class graduates who were meritoriously selected based on their performance in undergraduate. He explained that the beneficiaries would study in internationally competitive areas of professionalism to bridge the manpower gap in the state and across the nation.

80-year-old woman dies in Lagos building collapse
Tragedy struck on Thursday morning when a yet-to-be-identified woman said to be 80 years old died as the staircase of a storey building caved in in the Oyingbo area of Lagos. The Lagos State Building Control Agency while condoling with the victims of the collapsed building blamed the non-compliance on the vacation notice on the part of occupants of the building. A source in the area said the building was an old building and needed to be vacated for repairs. “The agency responded to distress calls concerning the above and upon arrival, discovered a storey building in a state of partial collapse. “Unfortunately, an old woman died from the impact of the partial collapse,” LASEMA said in a statement.

Army detonates 642 unexploded bombs from Ikeja cantonment
The Nigerian Army on Thursday said it has so far disposed of a total of 642 unexploded bombs recovered from the Ikeja Military Cantonment. The service under an operation code named, “Exercise Clean Sweep” commenced the recovery and disposal of bombs from the cantonment on October 10, 2023. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said the service was set for the final disposal of the unexploded bombs on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Nigerian Army Range in Owode Ajilete, Ogun State. The statement read, “The clearance of remnants of unexploded ordnances from the site of the 2002 Ikeja Cantonment Bomb Blast commenced on Tuesday 10 October 2023 in an Exercise codenamed “EXERCISE CLEAN SWEEP”. Accordingly, there would be a movement of UXOs from Ikeja Cantonment to NA Range, Owode Ajilete.
