The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang. Meanwhile, the court also affirmed the sacking of the lawmaker representing Langtang Central State Constituency in Plateau State, Rimvjat Nanbol. “It is my view that without complying with court order, there was no party by the name PDP in the election. “It is a joke taken too far for a political party to disobey an order of court,” he added. He noted that a court of law has jurisdiction to entertain a matter bordering on a political party especially if that party disobeys a subsisting order of a court.

Terrorists killed in airstrikes, commanders hideout destroyed- NAF

Rice price skyrockets as local production declines
Rice consumption in the country has been on a steady rise, beyond the reach of local supply, leading to a supply gap of about two million metric tonnes annually, a new report has disclosed. This has led to an over 37 per cent increase in the price of the commodity so far in 2023. These factors, along with rain-induced disruptions and variations in quality during Vietnam’s summer-autumn harvest have further contributed to the price surge. It, however, expects an increase in production of rice by approximately 4 per cent, and a further increase in the price of paddy rice by up to around 32 per cent. While rice is cultivated across all of Nigeria’s agro-ecological zones, the Northwest region accounts for 72 per cent of the total rice production in the country.

On the recall of ambassadors
In its transitional activities, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration recalled Nigerian ambassadors from their mission in early September. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the point that ambassadors as representatives of the country serve at the behest of the president who enjoys the prerogative to send or recall them from any country. It was subsequently speculated that government had extended the timeline for the recall by another three months due in January 2024. In any such case, the sending State shall, as appropriate, either recall the person concerned or terminate his functions with the mission. There is an additional impediment to the recall, that is, the usual financial constraints of Nigerian missions.
