The 2024 Tata Punch EV was spotted at a dealership. Although the official prices and launch date of the EV have not been announced, the Punch EV has reached a dealership before its launch. The Punch EV draws some of the design cues from the 2023 Nexon EV, such as the full-width LED DRLs and the new alloy wheels. BREAKING: Supreme Court affirms Plateau gov election
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang. Muftwang’s victory at the March 18, 2023 poll was upheld by the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Jos but the appeal court overturned the lower court’s victory declaring Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the election. The court, for the same reason, sacked many lawmakers elected on the PDP platform in the state. He also held that the tribunal and court of appeal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the issue. Agim noted that the petition of the APC in the first place was an abuse of the court process and faulted the appeal court for sacking the governor.

Following the recommendations of the Professor Hussein Abdul-Kareem Education Committee for the setting up of IMA Model College, the IMA Research Centre was further expanded with the construction of the school complex and hostels and the College was started by September 2005/2006 session. The applicants sat for the entrance examinations by August 2005 and we birthed the IMA Model College with 30 students the following month. I then brought out the brochures and pamphlets on IMA Research Centre. Besides, Schleifer promised to deliver a lecture at the IMA Research Centre in Nigeria at a later date and I linked him with Justice Ajibola to meet him in London during the Christmas holiday of that year.

US, UK carry out strikes against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen
The strikes are a sign of the growing international alarm over the threat to one of the world’s most critical waterways. Though the US has carried out strikes against Iranian proxies in Iraq and Syria since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, this marks the first known strike against the Houthis in Yemen. The Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping on Tuesday marked the final straw that culminated in Biden giving the green light for the US to move forward with Thursday’s strikes. The strikes come as Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin remains hospitalised following complications from a surgery for prostate cancer. There have been at least 27 Houthi attacks since November 19.

dollar exchange rate for 2024 budget
The Federal Government, on Thursday, said it settled for N800 to dollar exchange rate in the 2024 Appropriation Act after considering the average performance of the naira. It said it avoided basing the foreign exchange benchmark in the 2024 budget on a spot rate, to avoid eventualities and uncertainties. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who spoke with State House correspondents explained that the FG had earlier chosen the projected exchange rate of N750 to the dollar in the 2024 budget which the National Assembly raised to N800 to the dollar,Bagudu said, “For budgeting purposes, you don’t use the spot rate of anything. Bagudu also spoke on the level of borrowing to fund the deficit in the 2024 budget, saying there is a significant difference between 2024 borrowing compared to last year’s. Meningitis killed 190 in 2023, says FG
The Federal Government has alerted Nigerians to the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis. Meningitis is an inflammation of the fluid and three membranes (meninges) surrounding one’s brain and spinal cord. The disease claimed 190 lives across the country last year, according to the FG. Bye-elections: INEC opens application portal for observers
INEC said this in a notice issued by its acting Director, Electoral Party Monitoring (EPM), Mrs Hauwa Habib in Abuja on Thursday. Habib adviced the organisations to visit (http://observergroups.inecnigeria.org) and complete the application form. She added that INEC was conducting the by-election/re-run election stemming from the 2023 general elections, as directed by various election petition appeal tribunals. “Currently, 35 Constituencies are affected by these Court-ordered elections, while three cover entire constituencies, others involve only a few polling units. “Both categories of elections are scheduled to take place simultaneously in all affected constituencies on Saturday Feb. 3,” Habib added.

Supreme court delivers judgment on Plateau gov poll Friday
The Supreme Court will on Friday deliver judgment in an appeal filed by the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, challenging the nullification of his election by the Court of Appeal. The statement read “Take notice that judgment in the Plateau State Governorship Appeal at the Supreme Court is scheduled to be delivered on Friday, January 12, 2024. The development prompted Mutfwang to file an appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge the lower court’s decision. At the hearing of the appeal on Tuesday, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court led by John Okoro took arguments from lawyers to parties in the case. After arguments between Mutfwang’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, and Yilwatda’s counsel, J.O Olatoke, the Supreme Court said a date for judgment would be communicated to parties in the suit.
