Ukraine beats back Russian attacks on frontline as rain slows down Putin’s troops
Russian forces were failing to advance against Ukrainian troops as they scaled up their attacks on the eastern town of Avdiivka, senior military officials said. There were major infantry attacks being launched by the Russian forces as they tried to keep equipment intact, said Oleksandr Borodin, press officer for Ukraine’s third separate assault brigade. “Once the ground dries, they will definitely advance,” Mr Barabash said. Ukraine’s General Staff reported that its forces repelled many unsuccessful Russian assaults in widely separated sectors of the frontline. Around 55 combat clashes took place in the past 24 hours, it said in an evening report on Thursday.

UN Chief Says ‘Something Clearly Wrong’ with Israeli Military Operations in Gaza Strip with Thousands of Children Killed
TEHRAN (FNA)- United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said Wednesday that thousands of children in the Gaza Strip were killed, which he said shows that there is “something clearly wrong in the way that military operations are being done”. “We have in a few days in Gaza, thousands of children killed,” he said. Guterres stressed the need for a humanitarian cease-fire as well as allowing the release of hostages, and allowing for the “massive entrance” of aid into Gaza. Liberia - Mines & Energy Ministry Identifies Victims in Bea Mountain Industrial Accident
press releaseThe Ministry of Mines and Energy has confirmed an unfortunate incident that resulted in one death and two injuries at the Bea Mountain Mining Company in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County. The Ministry, in a press release issued Wednesday, November 8, said the incident, which occurred at Crosscut 810, was triggered by activities at Crosscut 830, an underground mining site. In a release on Wednesday, the Ministry expressed regret over the incident and extended condolences to the victims' families, particularly Thomas Haines. It clarified that the accident was unrelated to the mining method employed by Bea Mountain Mining Company, which is classified as a Class 'A' mining company. Meanwhile, the latest incident has raised concerns about safety standards and practices within the company, marking another addition to a series of accidents at Bea Mountain.

Liberia: Political Parties Trained on Campaign Financing Regulations
Integrity Watch Liberia (IWL) is taking action to address campaign financing violations by providing training for 40 political parties in Monrovia. A recent report released by Integrity Watch Liberia revealed widespread violations of campaign financing, with the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) identified as the main offender. Aidoo commended the participating political parties for their commitment to promoting transparency and accountability during the upcoming election season. Aidoo emphasized that the training would strengthen political institutions and promote compliance with the laws and regulations governing political party finances and reporting requirements. The key objective of training, the organizers said, is to empower political parties with the knowledge and skills needed to adhere to campaign finance regulations and ensure a level playing field in elections.

Liberia: There Is No Neutrality or Sitting on the Fence
Jesus made these assertions to show that there's no neutrality in the battle between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan. In other words, we can either be for God or against him, for there is no sitting on the fence in the fight between light and darkness. Similarly, in the upcoming presidential runoff election between the Unity Party (UP) and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), there is and should be no neutrality. We all, as Liberians, are stakeholders in this runoff election and must take a side by participating. We are at a crossroads as a nation, and the runoff election is everybody’s business.

Liberian Government Gets Highest Pass in MCC Scorecard Since 2017; Now Eligible for Consideration of US$500m In Compact Grant
The board considers the country’s potential to reduce poverty and foster economic growth. MCC has an ongoing portfolio of countries in various stages, including compact development, implementation, threshold programs, and program closure. Additionally, the compact development process also includes rigorous stakeholder engagements, a beneficiary analysis, and an environmental and social analysis of projects. This process can take up to two years, while a country must maintain a passing scorecard during the entire compact development period. In January 2016, the MCC and Liberia initiated a five-year, US$257 million compact aimed at spurring economic growth and poverty reduction in Liberia.

Liberia: Third Place Finisher Edward Appleton Endorses Joseph Boakai
He conquered the third place from big names which includes Mr. Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress, by extension the CPP. He beat the likes of Tiawon Gongloe from a vote rich County of Nimba shown in the National Elections records of count. Appleton obtained forty thousand two hundred seventy-one (40, 271 votes) constituting 2.20% of the total vote count. It became an embarrassing and scaring moment when it became rumors amongst party officials of the UP that the CDC was attempting to hijack the process with a lucrative offer to Mr. Appleton to change his decision last minutes. Appleton who many described as the a surprised in the October 10, 2023 elections is the third runner-up with more than 40K votes over taking Mr. Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) who sat at third place in 2017.

Liberian Realities: The Hiccup to National Development and Growth

By and large, the impact of the magnitude of Liberian realities on the nation is one that has greatly hurt rather than helped the country develop and grow socio-economically, intellectually, politically, spiritually, and in infrastructural terms. The development, growth and progress of any nation [people] are functions of certain inherent and intangible factors which act together to form a people’s character. A course that I did recently at the Evangelical Seminary of West Africa (ESWA) in Monrovia, Liberia, called Liberian Realities, describes in detail the factors that form the character of the Liberian people. Such despicable character is the main cause for the lack of integrity that pervades every section of Liberian society – the Church, government, private sector, academic institutions, political parties and the governed.

Liberia: Pres. Weah’s Govt. Finally Passes MCC Scorecard
The administration of President George Weah has finally passed the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation scorecard after five years of repeated failures. As stated in previous engagements, the Weah Administration plans to apply for a new compact to the tune of US$500 million. As for the 2024 scorecards, Liberia, along with 24 other countries, passed, with 55 countries falling short in the process. The FY24 scorecards included two changes to the education indicators related to the way MCC assesses a country's commitment to strengthening its education system. Second, MCC replaced its indicator measuring government expenditures on primary education with a new indicator that covers expenditures for all levels of education.
