It commended the Liberian people for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the just ended electoral processes. “The CSO Platform and the human rights community recognize that people took sides during the process, but the elections have ended and it’s time to put the interests of the country above personal interests,” the group said.

MONROVIA – President Weah believes cabinet ministers didn’t do enough to protect and account for their votes, leading to early concession. He also admitted that at a certain point, officials were careless and didn’t protect the votes; everyone was a big boy or girl, and they left the ballot boxes with kids. “Had we minded the ballot boxes, some of the irregularities we are hearing about would not have occurred. The president has taken the defeat as a collective loss and warned officials to stop the blame game. The President has asked cabinet ministers to reach out to the grassroots support base who are still struggling to overcome the loss and not to turn their backs on them.

By Lennart Dodoo, [email protected]The Influencer in NimbaThis is however, not a new phenomenon with Sen. Johnson. In the run-off election Weah obtained 73,434 votes (57.14%) after Sen Johnson’s support while Boakai got 55,083 votes (42.86%). Sen. Johnson also accused the Weah-led government of refusing to release the county’s development fund paid by ArcelorMittal. Weah, apparently weary of Sen. Johnson’s demands, in 2022 decided not to buy in to anymore demands from the Nimba County Senator. Boakai’s Vice President-elect, Sen. Jeremiah Koung is a member of Sen. Johnson’s Movement for Democratic Reconstruction (MDR).

I call on all Liberians to join hands to exploit the full potential of a country of promise. There are no green Liberians or blue Liberians, western Liberians or southeastern Liberians, north central Liberians or southern Liberians. What should define us is our collective resolve to transform our country for the good of everyone including future generations. I promise to extend development across this country including building the roads of our beautiful region of southeastern Liberia, which for years has suffered the fate of rural neglect. Over the period of the campaign and the struggle, many Liberians and some of our partisans lost their lives.

Jakarta, (EFE).- A ship carrying about 200 Rohingya that made landfall in Aceh, the westernmost province of Indonesia, has brought the number of these refugees arriving to the country to more than 1,000 this month, the NGO Kontras reported Wednesday. According to the organization, which works in Aceh to welcome and assist refugees who arrive on its beaches, 219 people arrived late Tuesday night on the island of Sabang, including 56 children. With this case, the number of Rohingya – a Muslim minority persecuted in Myanmar – who arrived in the last week on the northern coast of Indonesia already amounts to 1,084 people, of which 465 are children. The institution also said at least 348 individuals died or disappeared on these voyages last year. The brutal operation the Myanmar army launched in August 2017 against the Rohingya population in the north of Rakhine state led to the exodus of more than 720,000 refugees to neighboring Bangladesh and brought Myanmar an accusation of genocide before the Court International Justice in The Hague.

Rep. Koffa, an influential lawyer, was easily elected as Deputy Speaker in 2020 following the election of his predecessor Prince Moye as Senator of Bong County. Asked whether he was concerned about a potential rift among his partisan lawmakers if Rep. Fallah contests, Deputy Speaker Koffa said he was confident that the CDC will produce one candidate. But Rep. Koffa brushed aside that notion. The Deputy Speaker vowed to be robust in “holding the executive’s feet to the fire” and promote transparency under his gavel as Speaker.
