Siobhan Brady with her harp at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, where she broke the world recordAn Irish harpist has received confirmation that her world record bid to play a concert on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro was a success. The 24-year-old Limerick native had set the previous record for highest altitude harp performance in 2018 when she successfully played her instrument at an altitude of more than 16,000ft in the Himalayas. Ms Brady was finally able to celebrate over the weekend after Guinness World Records contacted her to confirm she had successfully broken her own world record by playing her harp at an altitude of 5,895 metres. However, we somehow made it through and found the perfect moment for the concert with only the clouds below us. The harp was placed in a specially adapted, robust case with pole handles and weighed 36kg.

Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said Storm Fergus will conclude what has been an “unsettled weekend of weather for the UK”. “Fergus will bring some strong winds and heavy rain for a time late on Sunday and into the early hours of Monday morning,” he said. “While the strongest gusts are expected in the Republic of Ireland, Storm Fergus will bring some windy conditions to western areas, including Irish Sea coasts, while also bringing some potentially impactful rain.”

Growing up in a Nigerian household, the value of money was ingrained in me from an early age. This lesson became particularly significant when I started working at my aunt’s salon after school at the age of 13. I learned to budget and save a portion of my earnings, understanding that financial security requires discipline and planning. The early exposure to the world of work and money management laid the foundation for a strong financial mindset that continues to guide me today. I’d underestimated how volatile the market could be for cryptocurrencies, and unfortunately, ended up losing a significant amount of money.

Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has confirmed he will seek his party’s nomination to run in next year’s European elections in Dublin following the riots in the capital last month. The Dublin Bay North TD said he had a “visceral” reaction to the violence on November 23 and it made him reconsider his previous decision not to contest next June’s elections. “I look at the things we’ve won over the last 10 years: marriage equality, repeal, a better sense of ourselves. He also noted he would be a member of the Party of European Socialists in the European Parliament where there has not been a Labour MEP for nearly 10 years. He has a master’s in European politics and said Labour should be looking to send “as good a candidate to Europe as we possibly can”.
