This is ‘heaven compared to what I went through’While a priest was preparing for Christmas services in Athlone and many of us were rushing around buying last-minute gifts, a horrific scene was unfolding in his home country. I have seen women throw away their babies because they have to escape,” Fr Innocent recalls. Boko Haram also wants a full Islamic state and is opposed to anything considered western, like education. Because for me, it's heaven compared to what I went through and what I've experienced. Fr Innocent now finds joy in the little things - praying, saying Mass, enjoying food and good books, sleep, walking and meeting with local people.

Prince Harry on Friday dropped his libel lawsuit against the publisher of the Daily Mail tabloid following a ruling in which a judge cast doubt on his case. The action will leave him on the hook to pay the publisher's legal fees, which the the Daily Mail reported to be 250,000 pounds (USD 3,16,000). The case involved a Mail on Sunday article that said Harry tried to hide his efforts to retain publicly funded protection in the UK after walking away from his role as a working member of the royal family. He claims that hostility toward him and his wife on social media and relentless hounding by the news media threaten their safety. He cited media intrusion for his decision to leave life as a senior royal and move to the US.

LONDON — Prince Harry dropped his libel lawsuit Friday against the publisher of the Daily Mail tabloid following a ruling in which a judge cast doubt on his case as it was headed to trial. The action will leave him on the hook to pay the publisher's legal fees, which the Daily Mail reported to be 250,000 pounds ($316,000). The publisher argued the article expressed an honest opinion and caused no serious harm to his reputation. In March, Harry sought summary judgment — to win the case without going to trial — and tried to knock out the Mail's defense but a judge didn't buy it. He claims that hostility toward him and his wife on social media and relentless hounding by the news media threaten their safety.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for Sunday and Monday, covering most of the country, with a yellow wind warning issued for parts of Scotland including Glasgow and the Central Belt. The cold weather will linger longest in the north and the islands, where wintery conditions persist. However, the mercury climbed upward in the region from then on, with the same village sitting at minus 1C at 5am on Friday, as per preliminary Met Office data. “The Atlantic influence will then introduce some wet and windy weather, with a deep area of low pressure approaching from the west on Sunday. “While detail is still being worked out, we expect windy weather for many and some heavy rain in the west and so we’ve issued warnings for Sunday for wind and rain.

New practice facility mooted for Athlone Cricket ClubAthlone Cricket Club looks set to take a step forward with the development of its own bowling and batting practice area in the town. The council said it's prepared to offer the club a site for an outdoor, fenced-in practice facility at the Athlone Fitness Park, between the Athlone Town football stadium and Athlone Regional Sports Centre. Athlone Cricket Club, which is approaching its 50th anniversary, plays its games about 10 miles outside of the town, in Doon, county Offaly. "The council will assist the club, as a minority sport, and is considering the possibility of facilitating a bowling and batting practice area at the Athlone Fitness Park." Cllr O'Rourke, meanwhile, acknowledged the work done by the cricket club, saying it had come forward "very quickly" with the required specifications and drawings for the practice facility.

Photo: SportsfileCunningham will have two teams to support on SundayIt’s not often that somebody has close connections with two different teams on the day of the All-Ireland senior club finals. Living in the Curramore area, Cunningham is a former St Brigid’s manager who enjoyed Roscommon and Connacht success with the club. During his time as Galway senior hurling manager, Cunningham led the Tribesmen to All-Ireland final appearances on two occasions. As a player, Cunningham was an All-Ireland senior hurling medal winner with Galway in 1987 and 1988, but senior club success with St Thomas’ eluded him as their breakthrough came later. They didn’t win their first title until 2012 but now have eight senior hurling crowns to their credit.
