National Who was St. Brigid and why is she inspiring many 1,500 years after her death? While St. Patrick has long been the saint most identified with Ireland, Brigid has gained a growing following in the 21st century. She was honored on the mid-winter holy day of Imbolc, still commemorated on Feb. 1, which also became St. Brigid's Day. Various churches on the European continent claim to have relics of St. Brigid. The relic's new resting place will be the Catholic parish church named for St. Brigid, which plans to display it permanently.

27 Jan 2024| 06:38am ISTSC rejects plea to revisit criteria to identity pvt forestsApex Court turns down Goa Foundation plea of canopy density of 0.1 (10%) and size of 1 ha as classifications of forests; says existing criteria for identification of private forests adequateTeam HeraldPANJIM: The Supreme Court rejected the NGO Goa Foundation’s appeal to revisit the Goa government’s criteria to identify private forests, stating that the existing criteria for identification of private forests in the State are adequate and valid, and hence require no alteration. The effect would be that even for a minor development on the concerned land, the permission of the government under the FCA 1980, for the landholders would become indispensable. The Court observed that the appellant was attempting to take a contrary stand on the issue of criteria for the identification of forests, namely, suggesting a change in criteria for the identification of deemed forests under private ownership. On the one hand, the appellant is challenging the criteria adopted by the Sawant and Karapurkar Committees for the identification of among other things private forests and on the other hand has relied on the same criteria adopted by these two committees for the identification of forests, including private forests, before the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The Goa Foundation had challenged the criteria issued by the Goa government and others for the identification of ‘forests’ in the State.

Wild Atlantic Way anthology has some surprisesThis week there’s an anthology of short stories, all situated on the coastline of the Wild Atlantic Way, there’s crime from a major figure in Irish books and publishing, as well as a very successful author in her own right. Wild Atlantic Way Anthology Mary Heeran White SWS Publishing €9.99Set along the majestic west coast, this anthology of short stories has some surprises. Like, for instance, an embittered woman who poisons her 92-year-old mother by mixing rat poison into her gravy granules. And you can’t have a good oul’ Irish short story anthology without including a will. It turns out to be the skull of a woman, a murder victim in an unsolved case that’s fourteen years old.

The Kremlin claims one of its main aims in Ukraine is to “de-Nazify” the pro-western democracy. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for an international investigation into the incident. But we can repeat…that we are talking about a military plane that was involved in transporting Russian arms and enemy personnel more than once. And Russia did not inform Ukraine that this plane will transport Ukrainian prisoners of war. “No, this is an incorrect report,” Mr Peskov said when asked about it on Friday.

Ricardo Graziano joined the Sarasota Ballet in 2010 and, before a series of injuries kept him sporadically sidelined, contributed many a memorable performance. Most Sarasota Ballet audience members who’ve seen the breadth of Graziano’s work have a favorite, and for many this critically acclaimed piece is the one. Interestingly, this is Graziano’s only creation in which a piece of music was not the choreographer’s initial inspiration. The Sarasota Ballet has staked its reputation on performing more works by Frederick Ashton than any other company in the world, and “Sonatina,” from 2021, evidenced the influence of the British choreographer’s work on Graziano. Graziano CelebratedThe Sarasota Ballet presents three works by resident choreographer Ricardo Graziano.

Economics: US holiday retail sales up Dave Coker · Follow Published in DataDrivenInvestor · 7 min read · 2 days ago 2 days ago -- 2 Sharebubble troubleSome good news for the retail sector, as mixed economic news clearly didn’t impact Christmas spending by consumers, as we saw an increase of 3.1%, which is roughly inline with historical norms. We track retail spending to gain insight not only into the behaviour of the US consumer, but also the US economy, which will, of course, impact financial markets going forward. Retail spending isA KEY DRIVER OF THE US ECONOMYnot only accounting for some 70% of GDP but also — a point many miss — significant employment. Over the past six years the retail sector has been the single largest contributor of job gains, accounting for the creation of some 10M jobs. We know a combination ofHIGH INFLATION HIGH INTEREST RATEShas many Americans struggling just to cover the necessities of life, let alone holiday spending…

Ruaidhrí Fallon of St Brigid’s standing tall after defeat to Glen in last Sunday’s All-Ireland club final. Plenty of positives for Brigid's when pain of defeat subsidesBy Kevin EganSt Brigid’s controlled the game, but Glen owned the big moments. The signs were there early on that Glen wanted to get St Brigid’s out of their rhythm – and more often than not, it backfired. St Brigid’s trump card all year was Brian Stack’s ability to lock down the leading forward for pretty much every team. First and foremost are the two men who were probably the leading contenders for Man of the Match, if St Brigid’s had held on – Pearse Frost and Ruaidhrí Fallon.
