The Herald-MailSHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — The Contemporary American Theater Festival opens Friday and runs through July 28 at Shepherd University, featuring three new plays and an offering in two parts — plus a bonus production. Since its founding in 1991, the Festival has produced over 144 new plays, including 66 world premieres and 11 commissions. Appreciating how expensive housing is, we still have to laugh when people complain about the high 7 percent interest rates of today. Again, we can go back to the Truman-Eisenhower eras, when tax rates were about 90 percent for the upper income earners. Today, they pay slightly more percentage-wise than you or I pay, and in the case of corporations, sometimes much less. Ohio, where I am from, has federal, state, local and R.I.T.A. (regional income tax agency).

Ian Fairlamb at the Athlone RSC Parkrun recently. English visitor impressed by Athlone RSC ParkrunIan FairlambAlong with my family I was visiting friends who live west of Athlone, for a few days recently. The Race Director on the day was Ann-Marie, who made generous time for me and welcomed a visitor's run report (voilà!). There were 110 parkrunners on the day (only five shy of the record 115 on event 1), over half of whom were first timers at Athlone RSC parkrun. Thank you, Athlone RSC parkrun.

Celebrating 21 years of paediatric transplant in Ireland was the core theme of this year’s Irish Nephrology Society (INS) Annual Scientific Meeting and a major highlight of the gathering, according to INS President Prof Donal Reddan. The sports star, who is a “proud” ambassador of Temple Street, took the stage as part of a special dedication to paediatric transplant involving members and friends of the clinical team, as well as patients. We’ve done 159 transplants in Temple Street and the results and success of these transplants are on par with international standards. We are always working to do research and improve quality-of-life and graft survival for these patients.”A former CHI patient and two-times transplant recipient spoke about his “accidental diagnosis” of stage 3 renal failure at eight years of age and his time as a paediatric patient. “It was an amazing experience,” he said about the first transplant, adding that “the recovery went well”.

Andy Murray withdraws from Wimbledon singles but confirms doubles planBy Eleanor Crooks, PA Tennis CorrespondentAndy Murray will not play singles at Wimbledon but has committed to competing in doubles with his brother Jamie. He refused to rule out a final Wimbledon appearance and practised at the All England Club the last few days but it was clear his movement was nowhere near 100 per cent. Andy Murray, right, will play doubles with his brother Jamie. What has turned out to be his final singles match at the All England Club was an agonising two-day, five-set loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round last year. This is not quite the end of Murray’s singles career, with the 37-year-old set to make a final appearance at the Olympics in Paris later this month.
