Three-year planning extension for 34-storey hotel on Cork quays
The developer behind proposals for a landmark 34-storey tower hotel on Cork city’s quays has been granted a three-year extension to planning permission and has pledged to commence construction “as soon as possible”. Tower Development Properties Ltd sought to extend its planning grant for a 140m, 240-bedroom hotel on Custom House Quay last month and its request has been approved by Cork City Council. They include: obtaining a fire cert, approving construction contracts, commencing works required to upgrade quay walls, demolition works and conservation work. The construction period for the project, according to a cover letter from planning consultants McCutcheon Halley, is expected to be “in the region of 20-24 months”. The letter also states that “conservation will be a priority when constructing the development”.

How is the league table worked out? Points are awarded for wins and draws – two and one respectively across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. Additional points are made for progressing through the rounds and bonus points were given for the position clubs finished in the league phase, weighted in favour of Champions League clubs. They have five of their original seven clubs still involved, with Bayern Munich a shoo-in for the Champions League quarter-finals after their thrashing of Atalanta. However, none of the other four clubs hold leads heading into the second legs, with Europa League duo Stuttgart and Freiburg trailing.

Rachel Reeves to participate in Dublin Ecofin meeting, Simon Harris says
Tanaiste Simon Harris met Ms Reeves in London on Monday, where the pair discussed the economic implications of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as well as “positive cooperation” between Ireland and the UK. Mr Harris, who is also the Irish Finance Minister, told reporters afterwards that he had invited Ms Reeves to address the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of this year.
