The farmers claim some of the distributors are stocking the fertilizer to later smuggle it to Burkina Faso. GhanaWeb's correspondent, Senyalah Castro, reports that even with the unapproved price, distributors still demand the particulars of farmers, as is the case in buying the subsidized fertilizer, before selling to them. The farmers displeased with the actions of distributors, have described them as dishonest people who are cheating the government on the blindside. He said though the fertilizer has been subsidized for the farmers, distributors had to pay for their own transportation to their various locations and take care of other charges, which accounted for the increase in prices. He dismissed claims by the farmers that distributors were stocking the fertilizers in their shops, stating, the distributors face a lot of difficulties to supply the fertilizer.

He explained that, “The arrangement is that we should pay them as cabinet Ministers - the equivalent of cabinet Ministers' salary - that hasn't happened before. Also, the arrangement indicates that we should give them backpay from 2017; if we pay them already, why must we give them a backpay from 2017? Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrooko, Kwesi Pratt said that if there is already an arrangement to pay some monies to them, there is no justification to pay them any back pay. Kweku Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, stressed that this arrangement will be illegal, since the wives of the presidential officials are not constitutionally part of the Article 71 holders. "More importantly, what we're saying is that those salaries, monthly salaries equivalent to the salaries of cabinet Ministers is totally illegal.

Citing an instance where Pappy Kojo was nominated for nine awards but could not win any, Hammer said that particular situation plunged him into depression. The award-winning music producer could not fathom why an artiste would be nominated in many categories without winning any. It’s too much to go home empty-handed; you can nominate that person for three awards,” he added. One can recall that the likes of Kelvynboy, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Wendy Shay and several others have bemoaned the biased nature of awards schemes, particularly the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMAs). Wendy Shay in particular alleged that most deserving artistes are usually side-lined because organizers rather present awards to their favourites.

This follows a decision by a High Court in Accra to strike out the case for want of prosecution. Mr. Hosi’s lawyers have filed an affidavit and a writ requesting the re-listing of the case, pointing out that Mr. Agyapong’s lawyers have failed to attend several hearings and that the court rather took the decision to strike out the case on the one day that Mr. Agyapong’s lawyers showed up in court. “The record of the Honourable Court will show that Plaintiff/Applicant has diligently prosecuted this suit over the entire period with Counsel attending court at every adjourned date and never once defaulting in complying with any order or direction of the Honourable Court,” Mr. Hosi’s lawyers say in their affidavit. In his suit filed in July 2017, Mr. Hosi is demanding damages to the tune of GHC5,000,000 against Kennedy Agyapong and GHC3,000,000 against Kencity Media, a media company owned by Mr. Agyapong.

Following public outcry, Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia issued separate statements to reject all monies to be paid to them in their capacities as First and Second Ladies, following recommendations by the Professor Yaa Ntiamoah Baidoo Committee. He explained that particularly when the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has continuously said that the country is economically handicapped, this was a bad move and wrong timing. The president told us that things are tight, the economy is hard hit by COVid-19, things are difficult and so we should tighten our belt. He told public workers not to ask for an increment in salaries because things are tight. That is what the public outburst is about and so if the First Lady and Second Lady say because of the public outburst, now they don't want the allowance again, then they should refund it; we need it," he said.
