The move, according to the sector minister, Dr Awal Mohammed would be realised through the allocation of investment worth GH¢120 million. Speaking at the 3rd African Youth in Tourism Innovation Summit and Challenge in Accra, Dr Awal Mohammed said the seed capital will also go towards the expansion and growth of jobs in the sector. He added that government has targeted 30,000 SMEs for this initiative in the long term with an immediate plan to start with 10,000 of these enterprises. Meanwhile about 70 percent of Ghana’s SMEs contribute to the overall GDP growth of the economy.

The Service said that the destructions were as a result of over 3,000 fire incidents recorded for the period. Already, the country has recorded a total of 3,301 fire outbreaks with more than half of the figures culminating from domestic incidents. “From just January 2021 to June 2021, the total number of fires recorded within the period is 3,301 nationwide, and the cost of damage is GH¢24,168,813.”“Domestic fires took the lead and that was 1,869 followed by commercial fires. The Ashanti Region recorded most of the fires, and they recorded 613, and it was followed by the Greater Accra Region with 428,” Fire Officer Ashong disclosed.

A July 29 COMOG statement signed by Prince Zakaria, for president of the coalition, said their representatives had witnessed how these MPs withdrew their backing for the bill when it was due to be presented to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, late last month. COMOG commended Ningi Prampram MP Sam Nartey George for leading the eight-member group that drafted the Private Members’ Bill titled: “The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, Bill 2021," which seeks to outlaw activities of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, LGBTQ+ community. Currently, the bill is at the draft stage and will be laid before the house and subsequently expected to be referred to the appropriate committee for consideration. He insists that LGBTQ+ tendencies are not human rights but preferences that need to be regulated within the context of what Ghanaian society and culture accepts. The bill has the full blessing of Speaker Alban Bagbin who is on record to have said he is pro-life and will ensure that the bill is passed into law as soon as possible.

Reports were rife on Thursday, July 29, 2021 that Awako has moved from Olympics to join his boyhood club. The reports indicated that the 30-year-old had signed a two-year deal with the Ghana Premier League champions who are looking to improve their team for the CAF Champions League.
