Addis Ababa, September 3 – The Brazilian Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Jander Ferreira dos Santos, said that Ethiopia’s accession to the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group opens a new and promising field of cooperation. “Ethiopia will now take stock of what BRICS has achieved in each of these areas and begin to contribute its own initiatives and perspectives. The Brazilian diplomat stressed that the interest expressed by many countries in joining the BRICS group shows that there is a positive motivation to defend these issues within the international community in general. “I am very optimistic about the future of South-South cooperation within the BRICS group and about bilateral relations between Brazil and Ethiopia as a whole,” he stressed. Regarding the latter issue, he noted in particular the need for developing countries to play a more important role on the global stage.

“We want harsh measures against the rioters, including the immediate deportation of those who took part,” Netanyahu said in a special ministerial meeting called to deal with the aftermath of the violence on Sunday. Ahead of an official visit to Cyprus, Netanyahu said the ministerial team was seeking to deport 1,000 supporters of the Eritrean government who were involved in Saturday’s violence. “There’s politics involved in this,” Brennan noted, adding that Netanyahu “clearly wants to be seen to be doing something”. Under international law, Israel cannot forcibly send migrants back to a country where their life or liberty may be at risk. Netanyahu said Sunday that he didn’t think deporting supporters of the Eritrean government would be a problem.

Navigating the Nile — a win-win for Egypt and EthiopiaHafed Al-GhwellA fishing vessel sails on the Nile River in Cairo, Egypt. Given what is at stake, however, and the shifting tenor of recent developments, are Egypt and Ethiopia potentially close to a win-win situation after all? Both of these alternatives are simply not feasible, however, especially for Egypt, given its dependence on the Nile for water security. The leaders of Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan could perhaps reorient their approaches to this perennially thorny issue by focusing on common interests and shared benefits. Another feasible compromise could entail Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan agreeing a data sharing arrangement to help manage water flows from the dam.

By LJDemissieSeptember 2, 2023Dear Bloomberg,I read your article about the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-9 landing in Hong Kong during a super typhoon. I found your article misleading and inaccurate, as it contradicts the official data and statements from the Ethiopian Airlines and the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department. The pilots had obtained clearance from the Hong Kong air traffic control, and they had followed the standard procedures and regulations for landing in adverse weather conditions. Therefore, I think your claim that the landing was risky and dangerous is unfounded and sensationalized. I suggest you revise your article or add a disclaimer to reflect the facts and avoid spreading misinformation.

Major challenges remain, though, as many of the schools themselves have been shelled and looted amid the conflict. And we certainly see that in terms of the … high attendance rates … once school feeding had started. For much of the war, Tigray was under blockade by the Ethiopian government, which halted all humanitarian aid and forbade aid workers and media from entering the region. In fact, there has been a deferential attitude towards the Defense Force even before the war against the TPLF. The defense force is no longer seen as Ethiopia’s Defense Force in the Amhara region due to the ruthless military campaign. The regime mobilization is full scale to the point that Fano forces have to lean towards guerrilla fighting in most cases. But this diversity, this ability to absorb talent from all over the world, is why Dubai, with a relatively small population of three million, is home to food options that delight connoisseurs worldwide. Smoked brisket at the Big T.I will weigh in with my global foodie creds (even if I say so myself) to draw a line in the sand and say: your list of global food hubs is incomplete if Dubai doesn’t feature in it . We even have Dubai food tours, which are growing in popularity. Parts of old Dubai have been converted from traditional Emirati homes to a local cultural experience described via local food. Whilst the Puritans will pooh-pooh Dubai scene as an upstart, I will weigh in with my global foodie creds (even if I say so myself) to draw a line in the sand and say: your list of global food hubs is incomplete if Dubai doesn’t feature on it.
