Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan resumed their years-long negotiations Sunday over the controversial dam Ethiopia is building on the Nile River's main tributary, officials said. The Blue Nile meets the White Nile in Sudan's capital of Khartoum, before winding northward through Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam said Egypt wants a legally binding agreement on how the giant dam is operated and filled. Key questions remain about how much water Ethiopia will release downstream if a multi-year drought occurs and how the three countries will resolve any future disputes. Sudan wants Ethiopia to coordinate and share data on the dam's operation to avoid flooding and protect its own power-generating dams on the Blue Nile, the main tributary of the Nile.

"The Chinese government gives us these scholarships for Ethiopian students every year. "This scholarship (opportunity) is also one of the fruits of the nice friendship," he added. In recent years, many Ethiopian students are interested in learning Chinese and applying for a Chinese scholarship, which plays a great role in bolstering their Chinese language proficiency and serving as connecting bridges between peoples of the two countries. "Apart from the education opportunity, this is a golden opportunity for students to serve as connecting bridges between the two friendly countries," she said. Noting that Ethiopians account for the largest Chinese scholarship recipients, Terfassa called on Ethiopian students to learn from China's socioeconomic development and apply it in the Ethiopian context.

Budapest: Uganda’s Victor Kiplangat won the men’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships on Sunday, while Maru Teferi of Israel finished with silver despite taking a tumble. “When I reached 30km I knew I felt strong and decided to push. Then at 35km I could surge again,” Kiplangat said after his victory. But it is short of nearly $200 million needed to pay for staff salaries and keep the services running until the end of 2023. White said some donor countries would hold discussion about funding for UNRWA in September. “In the event we don’t get the funding, it is 298,000 students who might not be going to school. In Gaza, it is 1.2 million people who may not have access to healthcare,” White said during a visit to one UN-run school in Gaza City.
