Boys collecting firewood in Gaza killed by Israeli fire
Two Palestinian boys have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza while collecting firewood, according to their families. The boys’ uncle insisted they were far away from the Yellow Line, “almost at the entrance of Kamal Adwan hospital. It’s not the first time that children in Gaza out looking for firewood have been killed. OPT said the killing of the three men brought the number of journalists killed in Israeli attacks since October 2023 to 292. OPT said three incidents that same day took place near the Yellow Line, and two 13-year old boys were among those killed.

Egypt’s Parliament discusses online threats of ‘Roblox’ platform
Egyptian Member of Parliament submitted an urgent inquiry on Sunday to the Prime Minister and several ministers regarding the Roblox online gaming platform, deeming it a “threat” to national security. Othman explained that the warnings concern the presence of content unsuitable for young children, the risks of exploitation, harassment, cyberbullying, and the negative impact on societal values, in addition to cases of addiction, social isolation, and psychological and behavioral disorders. The MP added that these risks constitute a clear violation of Article 80 of the Egyptian Constitution, which obligates the state to protect children from all forms of violence, abuse, or exploitation, as well as a violation of the Child Law, which mandates providing a safe and healthy environment for children’s upbringing. She noted that several countries are moving towards banning, restricting, or strictly regulating this platform. The MP called on the government to clarify its position on Roblox, outline the role of relevant ministries and agencies in protecting children, consider restricting or blocking the platform or its riskier features, and launch national awareness campaigns for families.

GAFI hosts Canadian business delegation to explore investment opportunities
The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) hosted a delegation of Canadian business leaders from the Canada–Egypt Business Council (CEBC) to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Canada. During the meeting, GAFI delivered a comprehensive presentation on Egypt’s investment climate, highlighting the competitive advantages of the Egyptian economy, its strategic geographic location, and priority sectors for investment. The authority also showcased the Investment Map, which features a wide range of investment opportunities across multiple sectors. Discussions also covered Egypt’s various investment frameworks, including Free Zones, Investment Zones, Technological Zones and Special Economic Zones, alongside the incentives and facilitation measures available to foreign investors. Members of the Canadian delegation raised several questions regarding Egypt’s investment regulatory framework, including the Golden License mechanism and company incorporation procedures.

UAE ranks among top 10 markets for Egyptian processed food exports, reaching $196m
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as one of the top 10 export destinations for Egyptian processed food products, with exports valued at $196m in 2024, reflecting the growing presence and competitiveness of Egyptian food manufacturers in Gulf markets, according to the Food Export Council of Egypt. The event offers Egyptian exporters direct access not only to the UAE and GCC markets, but also to buyers from East Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. During a presentation at the seminar, the Food Export Council revealed that Egypt’s processed food exports reached $6.3bn between January and November 2025, exceeding total exports recorded in 2024 by more than $200m. Focusing on the UAE market, the council said Egyptian processed food exports to the Emirates totalled $196m in 2024, posting annual growth of 11%. A total of 29 Egyptian companies recorded exports exceeding $1m each, together accounting for nearly $132m, or 68% of total exports to the UAE.

Suez Canal Bank joins Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials
Suez Canal Bank has officially joined the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), a global initiative comprising more than 700 financial institutions across six continents, aimed at standardising the measurement and disclosure of financed emissions arising from lending and investment activities. By adopting PCAF methodologies, Suez Canal Bank will be able to identify carbon-intensive sectors within its financing portfolio, enhance credit and portfolio risk assessments, and strengthen its capacity to design green and transition finance solutions tailored to clients’ needs. Commenting on the development, Akef El Maghraby, CEO and Managing Director of Suez Canal Bank, said the bank has already taken proactive steps to measure emissions associated with its financing activities. For her part, Angélica Afanador, Executive Director of the PCAF Secretariat, welcomed Suez Canal Bank’s accession to the partnership, describing it as an important step towards advancing sustainable finance in Egypt. She noted that by committing to measuring and reporting emissions linked to financial activities, the bank is enhancing transparency in the region and taking concrete steps towards effective emissions management.

2025 marks turning point in reaping benefits of FRA reforms launched since 2022: Farid
The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has released its annual report for 2025, titled From Regulation to Empowerment, documenting what it described as unprecedented advances across Egypt’s non-banking financial activities. Mohamed Farid, Chairperson of the FRA, said 2025 represented a genuine turning point in beginning to reap the fruits of the authority’s reform policies implemented since 2022. Of the total, 63% related to financing activities, 28% to capital market transactions, and 9% to the insurance sector. Farid noted that Egypt’s capital market recorded a historic surge in 2025, with total trading value reaching EGP 15.7trn, compared to around EGP 2.3trn in 2024. He added that the FRA granted the Egyptian Exchange its first licence to trade futures contracts, strengthening hedging tools and risk management mechanisms within the capital market.

Australian mining group Hunter & Co. to invest in Egypt following legislative overhaul
Australian mining group Hunter & Co. has expressed its intent to launch investment projects and establish strategic partnerships within the Egyptian mining sector, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Sunday. The discussions centred on the recent package of legislative reforms and financial incentives designed to improve Egypt’s investment climate and attract international mining entities. Minister Badawi noted that this interest serves as a primary outcome of his visit to Perth, Australia, last November, where he promoted Egypt as a competitive destination for Australian mining companies. As part of the current visit, Hunter & Co. executives requested to inspect various mining sites and meet with other active industry players in the country. Both parties have agreed to coordinate with the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) to develop an executive framework and finalise the necessary steps for the company’s formal entry into the Egyptian market.

Egypt’s PM reviews energy projects, investment attraction efforts

Egypt, Sweden discuss expanding health cooperation ahead of planned ministerial visit
Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Sweden’s ambassador to Cairo Dag Juhlin on Sunday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, including preparations for a planned visit by Sweden’s health minister, the Egyptian health ministry said. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said talks covered arranging field visits for the Swedish minister to Egyptian hospitals and pharmaceutical factories to boost cooperation and exchange expertise across multiple health fields. The two sides discussed signing joint memoranda of understanding to deliver tangible outcomes from the upcoming visit and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Gold prices surge EGP 580 in one week as supply tightens
Gold prices in Egypt’s local market rose by around EGP 580, or 9.4%, during last week’s trading, driven by a sharp rally in global bullion prices, which climbed by about $392, or 8.5%—the strongest weekly gain in nearly six years. Saeed Embabi, CEO of iSagha, said gold opened the week at EGP 6,155 per gram and closed at EGP 6,735, while the global ounce price jumped from $4,596 to $4,988. He added that 24-carat gold ended the week at EGP 7,697 per gram, while 18-carat gold reached EGP 5,773 per gram. Embabi attributed the sharp rise in local gold prices primarily to the surge in global prices, alongside relative stability in the local US dollar exchange rate and stronger domestic demand. These factors have contributed to widening the gap between local and global prices to around EGP 146.

Egypt reaffirms cooperation with UNESCO on water management, climate adaptation
