The Egyptian Cabinet issued an official statement clarifying the final regulations regarding the January 25 holiday, which millions of state employees are anticipating to mark Police Day and the anniversary of the January 25 Revolution. The decision includes how the holiday will be calculated for employees in both the public and private sectors, particularly addressing widespread questions about the application of the government’s recently implemented “holiday shift” system, which aims to standardize official holidays. According to a decision by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the holiday commemorating the January 25 Revolution and Police Day in 2026 will fall on Thursday, January 29th. It is an official paid holiday for employees in both the public and private sectors. For institutions that have Friday and Saturday as their weekend, this decision grants employees a three-day holiday, starting Thursday morning and ending Saturday evening.

Community-based HIV treatment delivery models are as effective as standard clinic-based care in maintaining viral suppression and keeping patients engaged in therapy across Africa, according to a new study. Researchers found no significant difference in viral non-suppression rates between differentiated service delivery models and conventional facility-based care, suggesting that stable patients can safely receive treatment with fewer clinic visits. The study comes as African health systems face growing strain from rising numbers of people on lifelong HIV treatment. The risk of non-retention in care was not significantly different between differentiated models and standard treatment, with a pooled risk ratio of 1.03. The findings support broader adoption of people-centred HIV care strategies as African countries seek to expand treatment coverage and meet global HIV targets.

The Associate Professor in the Department of Criticism and Dramatic Literature at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Nermin al-Houti, discussed why the late Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz remains an enduring icon of Arabic literature. Al-Houti took part in a wide-ranging intellectual symposium titled Identity in the Literature of Naguib Mahfouz, held as part of the Fair Personality program. Al-Houti observed that Mahfouz successfully projected Egyptian national identity onto the global stage through his depiction of the “Al-Hara” (a traditional alleyway). During the symposium, al-Houti outlined four primary pillars for studying identity in Mahfouz’s literature, beginning with the documentation of social and political transformations across Egypt and the Arab world. Often referred to as the “Balzac of the Arabs,” he is credited with maturing the novel form within Arabic literature and bringing it to a global audience.

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Monday that the healthcare sector ranks among the most attractive areas for investment in Egypt, describing healthcare not only as a social priority but also as a strategic economic investment that supports inclusive growth and human development. Abdel Ghaffar made the remarks during a panel discussion on Egypt’s healthcare system held on the sidelines of the Egyptian-Swiss Economic Forum in Cairo, according to an official statement. Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt’s universal health insurance system as one of the country’s most significant structural reforms, noting that it separates financing, service provision and oversight. This framework, he said, creates transparent and sustainable opportunities for private-sector participation in areas such as diagnostics, treatment services and digital health solutions, while safeguarding quality and equity of care. The minister underscored the importance of aligning private-sector innovation with national health priorities through strong governance frameworks, interoperability standards, data governance and cybersecurity measures, particularly within the universal health insurance system.
