Framingham man faces animal cruelty charge after Hollis Street disturbance
FRAMINGHAM — A local man is accused of grabbing a puppy by the neck and trying to steal it on Wednesday, claiming it was his dog, authorities said. He then allegedly disconnected her leash from the dog and picked up the dog by its neck and ran away. A witness gave chase before the suspect allegedly took the leash off the puppy, dropped it and tried to ride away on a bike. When he drew near the woman who owned the puppy, the man allegedly punched her in the arm, according to the report. When police arrived, the suspect allegedly ran into the middle of Hollis Street, screaming and forcing traffic to stop because he wouldn’t move.

BHT Foundation doles out more than $35,000 to local LGBTQ and HIV nonprofits
The BHT Foundation (formerly, Brother, Help Thyself, Inc.), the organization that provides financial support to D.C. and Baltimore-area nonprofits, announced it was handing out more than $35,000 to local LGBTQ and HIV organizations. The foundation annually bestows grants of varying amounts to organizations with annual budgets under $500,000, based on need. “Furthermore, our grants will help strengthen our support within the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities. From the leather community, Onyx Mid-Atlantic, Inc., received $2,500 for education and community support services, and Boot Black Round Up 2021 received $100 for event expenses. Fire on roof of new Metro building near L’Enfant Plaza sends smoke over downtown Washington
Authorities said the fire, reported about 10:35 a.m., was confined to construction materials. The cause is under investigation, and Metro said it appears to be accidental. The fire department said two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Man shot and killed at Metro station in downtown L.A.
A man was shot and killed at a Metro Blue Line station in downtown Los Angeles just before midnight Thursday, and authorities are searching for the shooter. The victim, who was in his late 20s, was traveling inside one of the train cars and was shot as he left the train, she said. It was not immediately clear which direction the man was traveling before he exited the train and was shot, nor which direction the shooter ran, authorities said. Officials had no information Thursday morning on a description of the shooter and could not confirm any relationship with the man who had been killed. A spokesperson for Metro did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

QLine, buses get dedicated lane in front of Detroit's Little Caesars Arena

A stretch of Woodward Avenue in front of Detroit's Little Caesars Arena has been changed into a dedicated transit lane in order to keep things moving on game days and concerts.Dan Lijana, a spokesman for M-1 Rail, the QLine streetcar's operating entity, says the dedicated lane is reserved for the QLine and DDOT and SMART buses and is expected to be completed on Monday. He says M-Rail has been working with the Michigan Department of Transportation, the City of Detroit, and Little Caesars Arena operators Olympia Entertainment since December.Lijana says they hope to transform other stretches of Woodward into dedicated lanes. "Dedicated lane has been a priority for our riders and for M-1 Rail since launch," Lijana says in an email. "The dedicated lane stretches from Temple Street to the I-75 service drive.

The Anniversary Ale is a New England IPA and its debut falls in line with the release of the chain’s Oktoberfest and Hawaiian Spice pizzas. While the specialty pizzas will only be available through the end of October, the Anniversary Ale will be available at Buddy’s full-service restaurants through the end of the year.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers wins approval of special permit to open in Marlborough
MARLBOROUGH — Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, a Louisiana-based fast-food chain, has won approval from the City Council to open a restaurant on the rapidly growing west side of Boston Post Road. Raising Cane’s Restaurants LLC received the special permit from the council Monday to construct and operate a restaurant and drive-thru at 141 Boston Post Road West (Rte. At-Large City Councilor Mark Oram said he would not support the special permit. He asked for a continuance due to concerns of a neighboring business, McDonald’s Corp., which has a restaurant at 155 Boston Post Road. The amount of green space and impenetrable surfaces also must stay the same or the company would have to go back before the City Council for approval.
