In a modest yet well cared-for home in the suburbs of Metro Vancouver exists a hidden museum. Mike Chandler, 76, has been building a model railroad in his 500-square-foot basement since 1998. Every tree is handmade, every single railroad tie — the rectangular support for rails — is hand-cut, stained and meticulously placed. Chandler estimates there are nearly five kilometres of electric wiring to make the railroad run. Chandler is among hobbyists in Metro Vancouver who have spent decades building their model railroads, many of them from scratch.

Quebec's provincial police is investigating the circumstances around the fatal collision on Christmas Eve. Eve Brochu-Joubert says it looks like the off-road vehicle deviated from its lane and collided with the truck, which was approaching from the opposite direction. The two occupants of the pickup truck were not physically injured. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Terry Woolf continues tradition of Santa’s ‘ground-level training’ before Christmas Eve. Yellowknife’s Terry Woolf first dressed up as “Sled-dog Santa” 15 or so years ago. This year, Santa Claus — er, Woolf — made his trip at about 1 p.m. on Saturday, starting in Yellowknife’s Back Bay and riding through the town’s houseboat community before looping back. Woolf says that the dog-sled ride is a chance for Santa Claus to do some “ground-level training” before his big trip to deliver presents on Christmas Eve. But you won’t hear this Santa saying “Ho Ho Ho” on his sled-dog run.

Twin told CBC's Edmonton AM, one character in the book tells a story about little people who live near the river and play tricks on people passing by. "Another kid tells a story about a girl that gets abducted and [has to] fight for yourself," Twin said. Twin said he wanted to convey the Indigenous communities' tradition of oral storytelling that always ends in a lesson. He said his next book, which falls in the sci-fi genre, will also pull on his Indigenous roots.

Yellowknife’s Terry Wolfe dressed up as “Santa the Sled Dog” for the first time in 15 years or so. This year, Santa Claus – that is, Wolf – made his journey at around 1pm on Saturday, starting in Back Bay in Yellowknife and riding through the town’s sailboat community before heading back out. 's energy regulator has shot down a proposed natural gas pipeline project in the Okanagan. Utilities Commission (BCUC) has rejected an application from FortisBC to build a natural gas pipeline worth $327 million in the Okanagan region. 's main natural gas utility, and argued they wouldn't be able to keep up with demand without the pipeline expansion. The intervener argued that those plans would likely lessen natural gas demand in those areas in the years to come. It has directed Fortis to examine other short-term solutions for anticipated natural gas demand and file a mitigation plan by the end of July 2024.
