Increased focus on the Arctic and North Atlantic will be amongst Copenhagen’s priorities when it takes over chairmanship of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) from Sweden on January 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. “The Baltic Sea region, Arctic and the North Atlantic will be geographical areas of particular importance in 2024,” a ministry spokesperson told Eye on the Arctic in emailed comment on Friday. “Our ambition is to maintain the region as a region of low tension as we face new and special challenges in the North Atlantic and the Arctic region,” the ministry spokesperson said. “This is important for strategic lines of communication and supply, as well as for capabilities and operational cooperation. With Finland’s accession to NATO and Sweden’s future membership, Copenhagen says NORDEFCO’s work has more importance than ever.

Feature Interview with Heather Exner-PirotEye on the Arctic: What Arctic headlines stood out for you this year? Heather Exner-Pirot: For me, the big thing is the Arctic Council handover. Then there was the question of how they would resume the work of the Arctic Council. We’re also seeing very little prospects for mining development in the Canadian Arctic. We’ve made it so expensive, so difficult and so time consuming to do mining in Northern Canada, that investors aren’t interested.

But, that acknowledged, I believe that my parents’ generation had a pretty good idea of how to have a good time. Much about the season remains the same as it was when my brother and sister and I were growing up. This all followed weeks of our tearing through the toy section of that year’s Sears Wish Book, circling what we wanted Santa to bring and squabbling over who got what. I watched the procedure then ran off to get into some kind of my own trouble. We just don’t know how to party like that anymore, but I really wish we did.

Liberals MPs spent Wednesday evening doing damage control in the wake of news reports about a politically embarrassing video of a Palestinian terror leader thanking Canada for supporting a ceasefire in Gaza. “Our statement was clear: for a ceasefire to be sustainable, Hamas must release all hostages, stop using Palestinian civilians as human shields, and lay down its arms,” the statement read. “We want to see this pause resumed and support urgent international efforts towards a sustainable ceasefire,” read the joint statement. “You’re backpedaling after a barbaric terrorist group thanked you for your support because a Hamas endorsement is a political problem for you,” Lantsmen wrote. Aligning Canada with Hamas & not the Palestinian people was a choice.”Lantsman called out Saks for waiting until after this week’s humiliating thumbs-up from Hamas.

State-of-the-art lifesaving medical equipment comes from fossil fuels and critical minerals from mining. Yes, fossil fuels. From the moment we come out of our mother’s body, fossil fuels make our lives better. If it is not made from fossil fuels, they were most definitely transported to the store using fossil fuels.

OTTAWA – Canadian car dealers will have to sell a lot more electric vehicles under new regulations finalized on Tuesday. They can also receive credits for building electric vehicle chargers and can earn credits in advance of the new rules coming into place in 2026. He said by getting out ahead with early rules Canada will get more electric vehicles, eliminating some of the long delays consumers have faced. “We will do this by ensuring more electric cars come to the Canadian market, instead of the US or other markets that have similar targets,” he said. He said even now when maintenance and fuel costs are factored in, there is a cost savings to electric vehicles.
