A Dhaka court has placed Shaheed Ahmed Mojumder, the youngest son of former MP Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, on a five-day interrogation in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Police arrested Shaheed in Gulshan on Saturday night. The following day, Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam of Gulshan Police produced him in court and sought 10 days to interrogate him in custody. The case was filed on Sept 13 by Gulshan Police Sub-Inspector Mahbub Hossain under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Kamal, a former MP for Dhaka-15, was arrested in Gulshan on Oct 19, 2024, and has been in jail since.

A total of 10,644 candidates have passed the preliminary examination of the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). The results were published on Sunday evening, Public Service Commission (PSC) spokesman SM Matiur Rahman confirmed to bdnews24.com. “According to that schedule, the results of the 47th BCS preliminary examination have now been published.”The exam was held from 10am to 12pm on Sept 19 simultaneously across 262 educational institutions in eight divisional cities. The PSC had issued the original circular for the 47th BCS on Nov 28 last year to recruit for 3,487 cadre posts and 201 non-cadre positions. The preliminary test had originally been scheduled for Aug 8 but was postponed by 43 days before finally being held.

Joint security forces are conducting a raid on the home of former member of parliament and Awami League leader Haji Mohammad Salim. Law enforcers say the raid on the house in Dhaka’s Lalbagh began around 11am on Sunday. However, they were unable to confirm why the operation was taking place. Deputy Commissioner Mollik Ahsan Uddin Sami of the Lalbagh Division of police said: “I do not know the details, but they asked us for police personal. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the deaths of four people, including three firefighters, in a fire at a chemical warehouse in Gazipur’s Tongi. “While performing the noble duty of saving lives, three of our brave firefighters along with another individual have lost their lives. The sound of drums, ululation, conch shells and temple bells filled Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka as worshippers gathered to welcome the Goddess Durga. With the Shashthi ceremony, the main formalities of Durga Puja, the largest annual festival of Bengali Hindus, officially began. Hindu custom holds that Durga Puja is marked in three stages -- Mahalaya, Bodhon, and Sandhipuja. This year’s Durga Puja countdown began on Sept 21 with Mahalaya, which also marks the start of the festival’s rituals. Durga Puja is being celebrated at 259 temples and pavilions in Dhaka city, seven more than last year.

Some of the recruitment tests for the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have been postponed for a week as they originally fell during Durga Puja holidays, when educational institutions are closed. NBR First Secretary (Board Administration) and Secretary of the Divisional Election/Recruitment Committee Md Zahid Newaz provided the information in a statement on Sunday. The recruitment tests were scheduled to be held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls' High School in the capital. Now they will be held at the same venue but on Oct 11. The results were announced on the same day and the written examination date was set for Oct 11.

The Election Commission (EC) has begun talks with civil society representatives as part of a series of stakeholder consultations ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections. The dialogue, the first of its kind under the commission led by AMM Nasir Uddin, started around 10:45am on Sunday. The next parliamentary election is expected to take place in the first half of February, before Ramadan. The EC has said that the formal election schedule will be announced at least two months before polling day. According to the electoral roadmap, the stakeholder consultations are set to continue for between one and one-and-a-half months.
