Roads in Tongi are brimming with pilgrims as they make their way back home at the end of the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, one of the world's largest Muslim gatherings. To ease their arrival and departure, Gazipur Metropolitan Police's traffic department restricted general traffic, excluding vehicles carrying pilgrims, on three Gazipur roads starting from 10 pm on Saturday. To manage this influx, we have restricted vehicular traffic on these roads, though we are gradually allowing small vehicles to pass. Sheikh Nuruddin, co-owner of Soukhin Paribahan bus company, said the Ijtema in Tongi prevented their vehicles from leaving. He added that many of their buses are in Tongi, hired specifically for transporting Ijtema attendees.

“It was just awesome,” said junior forward Sullivan Mack. Offensive floodgates opened on Saturday as men’s hockey (13-4-4, 8-4-2 ECAC) took down Clarkson (13-12-1, 7-6-1 ECAC). The goal came on a Clarkson delayed penalty, allowing the Red to receive both the goal and the ensuing man-advantage. Clarkson capitalized not long into its two-man advantage, when Anthony Romano halved Cornell’s lead around 20 seconds into the Clarkson power play. Seven different players scored for Cornell, and all four lines contributed to the dominant offensive performance.

The government’s decision to fix prices of stents, commonly called heart rings in Bangladesh, has apparently backfired, leaving patients with cardiovascular diseases and their families with fewer but costlier options. A coronary artery stent is a small, self-expanding, metal mesh tube. It is placed inside a narrowed coronary artery after balloon angioplasty. The new rates range between Tk 14,000 and Tk 140,500 per stent. The importers of European stents stopped bringing in the products after the readjustment of prices.

I’m the first to admit, I have strong opinions on, well practically everything but here’s what I’m “gangin’ on aboot” today. All the televised sports that I am interested in viewing should be broadcast on either ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN or the Big Ten Network. My wife, on the other hand, is a smart woman but not nearly so wired as I pretend to be. A simple phone call to Amazon would have fixed it. Now, my friends, since this entire rant is, in the end, strictly rhetorical, we might as well launch into this week’s narrative.

Amid demonstrations against the Geographical Indication recognition of Tangail saree as an India-origin product, the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks has called a meeting to discuss the issue. Besides setting a course of action, the meeting on Sunday will consider lodging a protest against India’s claim, the department’s Assistant Director Md Belal Hossain said on Saturday. "Tangail is not a part of India, nor does the Tangail saree belong to India," he said. The department’s Director (Trademarks) Md Zillur Rahman said they could not respond earlier because Friday was the weekend. The controversy ignited when the Indian Ministry of Culture, in a Facebook post on Thursday, asserted that the Tangail saree originated from West Bengal, a claim that contradicts the saree's deep-rooted association with Bangladesh.
