Formula 1 has always been considered a European sport, steeped in tradition and exclusivity. In the wake of this past weekend’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, however, I think it’s become clear that this European grounding has eroded. Building on this momentum, Liberty Media doubled down by adding races in Miami and Las Vegas to join the long-standing Austin Grand Prix. The Las Vegas event is particularly ambitious — a night race on the iconic Strip, taking place in the shadow of the famed Caesars Palace casino. Liberty Media’s gamble here is clear: to make Las Vegas the crown jewel of the calendar, rivaling or even replacing Abu Dhabi as the season finale.

ProductionThe resolution that kicked off the talks urged a treaty that would "promote sustainable production and consumption of plastics". But what that means is a key point of difference among negotiators. Some countries want the treaty to mandate a reduction of new plastic production, and the phase-out of "unneccessary" items, such as some single-use plastics. "A new global agreement to address plastic pollution should not duplicate these existing instruments and voluntary efforts," warned the International Council of Chemical Associations. Developed countries "have historically benefited from industrial activities related to plastic production", noted Saudi Arabia, speaking for the Arab group.

Chu’s Wicked (2024) is a big swing and a miss, capturing the content of the stage musical but failing to hit on all of the beats that make it so great. Wicked follows The Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, before Dorothy ever landed in Oz. In the stage musical, when Nessarose is getting manhandled, Elphaba pushes her chair away. There’s nothing wrong with long movies in general, but there is something very wrong with long movies that are only long because they are paced horribly. Do we have to revive Gene Kelly to get another great movie musical?
