The S Alam Refined Sugar Industries Limited is set to reopen its mill in Chattogram five days after a fire destroyed raw sugar at a warehouse, triggering fears of a price rise during Ramadan and environmental impact on the Karnaphuli river. PIROJPUR, March 8, 2024 (BSS) – Seven people were killed and 10 others injured in a three-way collision among a bus, a battery-run auto rickshaw and a motorcycle on the Pirojpur-Parerhat road in Jhautla area under Sadar upazila of the district this afternoon. All the deceased were riders of the motorcycle and passengers of the battery-run auto rickshaws. The accident occurred when an Indurkani-bound passenger bus from Pirojpur bus stand hit a passenger-carrying battery-run auto-rickshaw going in the same direction on the way and it hit another motorcycle. Police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the injured and took them to Pirojpur Zilla Hospital, where on-duty doctor declared four of them dead, the OC said. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Pirojpur Zilla Hospital.

An Odell woman was arrested following a multi-year drug investigation in Gage County. After more than two years, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office concluded a drug investigation Tuesday with the arrest of Ryan N. Justice, 34. A press release from the sheriff’s office stated Justice was contacted during a traffic stop at 5:50 a.m. and placed under arrest for distribution of methamphetamine. A search warrant was also executed on Justice’s residence in Odell where a broken meth pipe and marijuana related paraphernalia were found. Also as part of the investigation, a second search warrant was obtained for a residence in Beatrice.

A man has been killed and another injured in a stabbing attack at Little Angel Street in the north Mudga area of Dhaka city. The deceased was identified as Piyash Iqbal, a 23-year-old student of Kabi Nazrul Government College. Piyash passed away during treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight, according to Inspector Bachchu Mia from the hospital's Police Outpost. Piyash’s friend, 24-year-old Shamim, is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital with serious injuries. Locals found Piyash and Shamim in a bloody state after some time and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

DHAKA, March 8, 2024 (BSS) – The mosque authorities across the country have been advised to follow the same procedure of 'Khatam Taraweeh' during the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims recite a specific part of the holy Quran during Taraweeh prayers in almost all the mosques of the country but some mosques do not follow this, a press release of Islamic Foundation (IF) said here today. So, the Muslims who travel different places cannot maintain continuity in the recitation of the Quran. IF has requested to recite first nine paras of Quran in the first six days of Ramadan with 1.5 paras every day and 21 paras (one para each day) from the seventh Ramadan to complete the Quran recitation by the night of Shab-e-Qadr. “Muslims, Khatibs, Mosque committees, imams and others concerned are requested to follow the procedure of reciting the Quran during Ramadan," the release said.
