No peace talks have been held for more than two years. "Of course we...understand perfectly that a time will come when it will be necessary to talk to Russia," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said. "Confusing peace with subjugation would set a dangerous precedent for everyone," said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The Water Development Board of WDB has said the water level will rise over the next three days, and there is a risk of short-term flooding. Mamun Howlader, the executive engineer of WDB in Sunamganj, said for the first time this season, around noon on Sunday, the water level at the Shologhar point in Sunamganj flowed two centimetres above the danger level. Moreover, the problem is also occurring because sand and silt brought by the hill runoffs are filling up the border rivers. The dam is causing obstructions to the flow of border water," said Professor Chittaranjan Talukdar, general secretary of the Haor Agriculture and Farmer Protection Council. However, in comparison, not even a kilometre of dredging has been done in the border rivers such as Chela, Khasiyamara, Sonai, and Cholti.

I never played a musical instrument — never thought I was capable of it — but their interest sparked my own. Your kids look up to you and wholeheartedly trust that you are perfectly kind, wise, generous, and loving. Before you know it, you’ve become a better version of yourself. When someone says “My kids saved me” or “My kids made me a better person,” that’s what they mean. At the end of the day, you always know where your priorities lie.

On Saturday mornings during Little League season, my father dragged my older brother and me away from cartoons to teach us how to throw a baseball. My father insisted we learn the ‘correct’ technique, which meant raising the arm to a perfect 90-degree angle, hand tilted back as if carrying a small coffin. This infuriated our father, and, just as he did inside our home for the smallest of trespasses, he exploded. Through years of teaching forehands, backhands, volleys and serves, I inadvertently learned the sport’s foundational mechanics — especially the importance of the follow-through — and their necessity. While I have tried teaching my son, Macallah, now 12, tennis for years, sometimes it has been frustrating for both of us.

TOPEKA, Kan. — A 170-year-old rivalry is flaring up as Kansas lawmakers try to snatch the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs away from Missouri even though economists long ago concluded subsidizing pro sports isn't worth the cost. The Kansas Legislature's top leaders endorsed helping the Chiefs and professional baseball's Kansas City Royals finance new stadiums in Kansas ahead of a special session set to convene Tuesday. But for Kansas officials, spending would at least leave Missouri and come to Kansas, and one-upping Missouri has its own allure. "They're sources of great pride," said Missouri state Rep. John Patterson, a suburban Kansas City Republican expected to be the next state House speaker. Despite the legislative push in Kansas, Missouri lawmakers aren't rushing to propose alternatives.

JERUSALEM, June 16, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - The Israeli army announced Sunday that it would implement a daily "tactical pause of military activity" in part of the southern Gaza Strip during daylight hours to facilitate the delivery of aid. The army said in a statement that "a local, tactical pause of military activity for humanitarian purposes will take place from 08:00 until 19:00 every day until further notice along the road that leads from the Kerem Shalom Crossing to the Salah al-Din Road and then northwards". The decision was taken as part of efforts to "increase the volumes of humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip" following discussions with the UN and other organisations, it said. Israel has long defended its efforts to facilitate aid deliveries, including through the Kerem Shalom crossing, but humanitarian groups have warned for months about a dire lack of food and other essentials in the besieged Palestinian territory. The World Health Organization has said more than 8,000 children under five have been treated for acute malnutrition in Gaza.

The result means that defending champions England will proceed to the second round of the T20 World Cup in their stead. Needing a win, they were sent in to bat at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Saturday. With four deliveries to go, Tim David launches one to midwicket, down the throat of Chris Sole. They played well against Namibia and Oman and the washing out of their game against England put the rivals on equal standing. Australia, meanwhile, will feel a surge of confidence in topping a competitive group with relative ease.
