His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest the election that will be held in Wayanad to fill the vacant seat, the party said. "Rahul Gandhi will retain his Raebareli seat because Raebareli has been close to him from before, that (area) has great attachment to the family, they have been fighting (in elections) from there for generations," Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters on Monday evening.

DHAKA, June 17, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has removed 100percent wastes of sacrificial animal in 64 wards out of total 75 wards of the corporation till 8pm. The 64 wards are ward No. - 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19-41, 43-59, 61, 63-66, 68-75, said a press release.

Heavy rain in southern China leaves 5 dead, 15 missing

BEIJING, June 17, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Five people died and 15 people are missing after heavy rains triggered floods and landslides in southern China, state media reported Monday. Torrential downpours have struck parts of densely populated Guangdong province since Sunday, following weeks of extreme weather across China. "Five people have died, with 15 people missing" in natural disasters near the city of Meizhou on Monday, state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing provincial authorities. Authorities have sent over 10,000 emergency personnel to the affected areas "to rapidly launch search and rescue work", CCTV reported. Scientists say greenhouse gas emissions drive climate change, making extreme weather more likely.

50 animals sacrificed on Paris Ground against target of 500

Dhaka North City Corporation announced a Tk 1,000 cash incentive for those sacrificing cattle at the designated place, Paris Ground in Mirpur, expecting 500 animal slaughters. 3 on Eid-ul-Azha day on Monday despite an awareness campaign to use the designated places for cleanliness. 7, four designated places were used for sacrificing around 1,200 cattle heads, said Councillor Md Tofazzal Hossain. Flames seen over Sylhet skies no cause for alarm, says Chevron

Chevron Bangladesh has announced the start of gas well maintenance at the Jalalabad gas field in Sylhet’s Lakkatura. Flames will be visible in the sky for the next 60 hours from early Tuesday. The US oil and gas company has assured local people that there is no cause for alarm. Chevron Public Relations Officer Sheikh Zahidur Rahman said in a press release on Sunday that the flaring was part of routine maintenance and that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the safety of the local community and the environment. Residents are advised to avoid the vicinity of the gas well during this period.
