Jannatul Ferdous, an assistant professor at the university`s Department of Fine Arts, was working as the polling officer at Pritilata Hall during Thursday’s vote, reports bdnews24.com. Soon after, she collapsed and was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where doctors declared her dead. “In the morning she was called for the vote count. Shortly after arriving here, she fell ill. Later she was taken to Enam Medical College, where doctors declared her dead,” said Prof Sultana Akhter of the History Department.

Police have arrested three teenage boys for their alleged involvement in the rape of a 5-year-old in Satkhira’s Kaliganj Upazila. The mother of the "seriously injured" child lodged the complaint on Thursday, leading to the arrests, according to Kaliganj Police Station chief Mizanur Rahman. The child was later sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for urgent medical attention. The observation came on Thursday evening during a two-hour meeting of the National Consensus Commission held at the State Guest House Jamuna under his leadership. A statement from the Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) said the session discussed the commission’s proposals on implementing the Charter along with recommendations from political parties. “The forthcoming national election in February is not just an ordinary poll, it is a foundational election that will set the course for the future of Bangladesh,” Yunus told the meeting. The proposals of a six-member committee formed to work on the implementation of the July Charter were also presented in the meeting, the statement said.

The Shongshoptok Parshad panel has boycotted the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union election, accusing the administration of bias and alleging collusion with Islami Chhatra Shibir in rigging the vote. At Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, the voter list showed 299 students, but 400 ballot papers were reportedly found. Bangladesh has recorded the highest number of dengue deaths this year, with six fatalities and 586 hospitalisations in the past 24 hours. Two of the dead were receiving treatment in Dhaka’s Mugda Medical College Hospital, and one each at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, DNCC COVID-19 Hospital, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. According to the health directorate bulletin, the latest admissions brought the total number of hospitalisations to 36,682 this year. At present, 1,792 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. The health directorate has tracked dengue cases since 2000.
