These figures show that total exports of major arms to the Middle East increased in 2009-2013 and 2014-2018, while Russia’s share of those arms exports simultaneously decreased. In 2009-2013, Russian arms transfers made up 7% of total arms sales to GCC countries. In 2019-2023, transfers of major arms from Russia to Iran accounted for just 0.2% of all Russian arms exports. In 2019-2023, arms imports by Iran accounted for 0.1% of arms imports in the Middle East, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar accounted for 28% and 25% respectively.

Tea production by State-owned Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation (NTZDC), which runs plantations on buffer farm belts around the country’s forests, declined by 10.35 percent in the first quarter of the year, even as private tea growers enjoyed bumper harvests due to good rains. Data from the Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) shows that tea output from the zones shrunk to 1.34 million kilogrammes (kg) between January and March compared to an output of 1.5 million kilogrammes during the same period last year. The buffer zones cover an area of 9,289 hectares and straddled 10 forests across the country and are managed by NTZDC. The others are Kakamega, Nandi North, Nandi South and Kaptagat. Tea bushes cover 43 percent of the Nyayo Tea Zones while the remaining 57 percent is under assorted tree species.

South Africa-based Web3 platform Momint has secured a US$50,000 grant from the DFINITY Foundation, a Swiss non-profit organization known for having the largest blockchain R&D team globally, to help it further expand globally. The grant was obtained through the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) Hub of Southern Africa, also known as Mzansi Web3 (MW3), which is funded by DFINITY. Momint will use the grant to integrate the ICP blockchain towards enhancing its business operations. “The innovation and opportunities presented by ICP in relation to the South African startup scene is immense. The fact that Momint, the very best Web3 startup in Africa, is using our blockchain protocol to tokenise their real world assets offers a strong case study.

Royal Air Maroc Cargo and cargo.one announced a global partnership that brings the Moroccan national carrier’s cargo capacity to the platform for digital air cargo bookings. Royal Air Maroc Cargo customers can now book digitally for general cargo shipments up to 1,000 kg (wide body) and 500 kg (narrow body), and perishable shipments in the coming weeks, according to an official press release from cargo.one. Freight forwarders using cargo.one can book Royal Air Maroc Cargo capacity for general cargo from selected EMEA markets with many additional markets including North America and the Middle East being added in the coming weeks. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has replaced a 100kVA transformer that was stolen three weeks ago in Bunson, Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region. The theft had resulted in a prolonged power outage, leaving institutions and households in nearby areas without electricity for almost a week. Both policies would pose political dilemmas for which Israel has never found lasting solutions. By the turn of the 21st century, Israel was confronted with at an impasse with Lebanon. He made the case that Israel’s investment in southern Lebanon was hardly worth it. A quick Israeli withdrawal would likely result in the return of Hezbollah, rendering the conflict strategically meaningless for Israel. Analysts and policymakers should not be surprised if the future of Gaza and southern Lebanon looks eerily similar to the recent past.

Israel’s extremist national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has visited the holiest Muslim site in Jerusalem, the al-Aqsa compound, in a provocative move as he seeks to disrupt ceasefire talks.
